Thought I would chime in with the new section here.

Just bought a 90' coupe last September. What I loved about it was it has not been modified at all, just a U of L's daily in the warmer months. Moving on from a PGT that pissed me off aka Megasquirt.

I never took any pics when I first bought the car, here is the earliest one after stripping the engine bay:

Freshly painted:

17x9 Volk TE37's redrilled bolt pattern ;)
Tanabe Sustec Pro S-OC coilovers.
JIC seat.
CA digital cluster.
Greddy oil filter relocation kit.
Nismo mounts.

Buying:

New S14 Zenki harness, AVCR, 5 lug swap front and rear for the Volks, 255lph f pump, Tanabe sway bars, aluminum driveshaft. Lots more Im missing off.

Thanks! :)

Today I just threw on the core and cut the support and some to get it to fit well with pop up lights.

Threw in some solid aluminium sub frame bushings today, they are a bit noisy on the minus side but the pros completly outweight the cons.
Back end is a lot more predictable and no more wheel hop.

I Highly recommend it!

Well good thing I kept it, a guy backed up into me on Thursday night at Race City :D
Otherwise instead of wiping off marks I would of been doing quite a bit more...

i think im missing something here. how did you get bumped into in a car thats not mobile? isnt that thing still stuck inside your garage.

No Ive been driving it since the beginning of April?? That is quite the assumption. The last picture posted was in February... more than ample time to do more than 1 swap.

3 weeks ago I pulled the head off because a spark plug arm came off in cyl #1 and jammed between a exhaust valve and v seat and broke the valve. 0psi in the first cylinder, yay!
I threw in ARP studs while I was there and got the head decked while I was there [Thanks Precise, very speedy!] and threw it all back together again.
Had to replace the turbo too since the chunk of valve went through the turbine. Ill take some pictures tomorrow....

PS I would not recommend doing the subframe bushings on the floor. It took me 5 hours at work, I will never do that without a hoist.

Ordered 5 lug conversion to fit my new TE's, I will snap pics of the car when they go on.

:D My new favorite package came in today:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/5lug.jpg

Going to install these and Z32 fronts at the same time, so just waiting on front rotors and conversion lines...

Havent decided if I am going to get new rear rotors or just drill the old ones to fit the 5 lug, hmmm. :dunno:

S13_Ryan
07-15-2009, 07:54 PM
id just go new rotors all round to keep things new and matching :) but thats just me.

how come you went with the ichiba kit as opposed to finding a full 300zx/jdm s14 5 lug conversion?

tomt64
07-15-2009, 09:31 PM
Im going with new rotors all around, I just dont know what 5 lug rear rotors to buy to fit the stock calipers. Apparently 5 lug sentra or 5 lugt s14 240sx rears fit?

I got them for $465USD shipped, so when everything is brand new and not needing to put S14 ball joints in the lower control arms to make the fronts fit [apparently] sold me.

S13_Ryan
07-15-2009, 09:45 PM
yea, 5 lug s14 rears and z32 front.

and yea 465 not bad, but the exchange rate was probably where it killed you.
but you're right. the s14 balljoint swap was a pain and delayed me getting my car on the road by about 2 weeks but i figure it saved me some dough

tomt64
07-15-2009, 10:10 PM
I got 88 cents actually, I waited until I was happy with the rate. Considering all places were charging $480+ w/out shipping, Im happy with new shit.
How many hours did the swap take you roughly if you dont mind me asking?

Redlyne_mr2
07-15-2009, 10:17 PM
Get that 5 lug on so I can see you on those TE's!

S13_Ryan
07-15-2009, 10:57 PM
Well actually working on it probably about 5 hours. But I spent weeks waiting for crap in the middle of it

tomt64
07-16-2009, 09:32 PM
Got some more goodies preparing for the swap:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/brembos.jpg

Just got to find some conversion lines for the fronts. Autodream and STRD dont have any in stock.

Volks are on but need a bit of finishing to get them to fit right.

Fronts will need 215's and a fender roll, rears will need a roll too.

Got some Project Kics lugs on there but my BB wont take good pics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/IMG00031.jpg

The second [bad] picture shows how much I need work I need to make them fit well.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/IMG00032.jpg

I raised the rear suspension for now so I dont rub the tires.

Also put the Z32 brake kit on, works pretty well...

New Greddy RZ bov with the flange welded to the cold pipe which I prefer; it sounds pretty nice too.

More updates when more money is wasted :poosie:

how did you get such wicked pull there on the rears without lots of damage? get some smaller tires on there and a bit of camber and dump the car an inch more. it'll look killer.

are you planning on keeping stock body or getting aero?

RZRSHARP_SVX

he used a heat gun. and took his time. from what I saw.

S13_Ryan
08-09-2009, 06:13 PM
tom, you should consider giving me a hand doing mine if you used the above method. ive seen people use a heatgun, a fender roller and a good 4-5 hours and still have them turn out like shit. therefore i have been putting it off doing it myself.

tomt64
08-09-2009, 06:16 PM
The right rear worked fantastic, no rust. The LR on the other hand thanks to some rust will need a bit of bodyworking but I can live with it.

This is the lowest I can dump it on the fronts, I need to take out the helper springs. I will do that one night this week on the fronts so then I can lower both the front and rear evenly.

Im actually planning to align this thing correctly but with aggressive settings for the track. I drive from outside the city so I notice tire wear a lot quicker than others.

As for the fender rolling:

Use a heat gun and any fender roller [Eastwood or Stance bot hthe same], heat the area up to minimum 120 degrees Farenheit [using that heat meaure thing that has the laser to measure surface heat] and then turn roughly 1/2-3/4 turn on the roller each time after rolling the fender.
I could of gone a lot further but was happy with the results.

As for the kit suggestions, I havent fully decided what I am doing this winter, but it would look way better.
Which aero kits would you recommend me to look at Ry?

Do you have access to a hoist? Is there ANY rust or bondo on either rear?

It is really hard to make both sides match but I can help you out one weekend if you want.

no hoist but i can just as easily jack up the car... and no, cars in great shape. just send me a PM and let me know when you have some spare time. im not in a huge rush. my wheels already fit i just wanna space them out some more and go a bit lower

L-Jetro is MAF, D-Jetro is MAP

very nice on the speedo haha. You will need a dash pigtail from a non projector i think.

I have a 280k/hr cluster in my s14, a nismo one. Find one, i dare you, they dont exist...as far as google is concerned. I think i have the only one in the area.

let me know when you want to tune, i can bring my datalogit.

Just a little update, started to reseal everything again and add new oil pump and timing gear since I didnt do it last time.
My Grex oil filter relocation is crap... I tightened the shit out of it last year and it loosened a significant amount that it started to leak... I actually thought it was my upper pan.

Yesterday I went to torque the head on using my ARP studs which have previously been used once before,
and after 20/40/60ftlb sequence, doing 80 the 2nd one snapped right down the centre.... I was lucky it snapped and didnt stretch the threads in the block and that I could get the part stuck in the block out [Thanks Cam].
Just ordered new ones for monday... :nut:

Sand blasted the plenum. Total cost $25 plus glass bead all in my hair! 15 for the shitty gun and 10 bucks for a bag of glass bead, I used a cardboard box to retain some of the glass and limit how much of a mess I made.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/build002.jpg

Turbo on, have sine put all the lower stuff on, pick up, pans etc.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/build003.jpg

Waiting on Greddy rocker arm stoppers so I can finally put my cams in and time everything, should be here monday from speedtech.
Still debating whether to start fabbing the body kit now or after I tune it in a few months time.

tomt64
05-17-2010, 11:56 PM
Alright long time no update but I always had this horrible feeling that I would barely be able to drive this with the cams in on a PFC base tune.
I started it for the first time tonight and that feeling left me quickly, even with the cams, no vct and just a base tune it idles brill! Took it for a little drive to make sure everything was ok and everything seems to go good.

Driving to autodream first thing tomorrow morning to get a tune to hopefully 14-15psi but we will see how quick I reach 90% duty c on the 555s. Wish me luck. :)
Track day is on wednesday, I was ready to call Rhys and tell him I wouldnt be able to make it but so far I dont have to. :D

Started mounting Origin bodykit...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/IMG00097.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/IMG00102.jpg

No holes drilled or nothing, first kit Ive ever slapped on so Im taking it nice and slow. Measure 8 times, drill once!

Car at autodream made 290whp 260ft/lbs at 5900rpm 14ish psi. Only dynoed to 5900rpm ionstead of 7500 due to a fluctuating boost problem, low 11 afr.
JWT S3's are meant to pull all the way up to redline and have some rocker stoppers to get rid of some Tom paranoia about a rocker going somewhere it shouldnt ....
Got an AVCR and will be getting ready to go back to the dyno soon enough.

GAB coils are in and stiff as  but it is worth it by a long shot... fresh alignment and only 1 toe is out in rear... adj toe links on the way. :)

I saw this car in person at devins the other day looks good, smells like paint.

Do yo still have the stock fenders/forsale?

I will put them up for sale when I know I dont have problems mounting the aftermarket fenders.... Ill let you know.

And no Kristof, havent been to Devins for awhile mustnt be the same guy  dont drive this thing in any bad weather and there hasnt been any good weather for the past week.

Bad news.... overfenders arent coming in for another 3-4 weeks, Im so sad:cry:

I looked at other brands to see if I could go with vis or extreme dimensions, but they all look like shit...

So I can put on the whole kit minus the rears for the track day or leave it stock for now and waste time when I could be fabbing it up... :dunno:

whats the point of the rear overs? are you spacing out your te37's? hacking at your quarters should be fun.

should look real good when its done, i still dont know if id ever go through the trouble of wide body though. fiberglass scares me, a bodykit is enough for me.

Widening the stance is a good way to eliminate body roll. :)

I have rust I want to cut out so it should be fun, I have a welding friend who will be helping me out on the day. If I smash a rear overfender then I can just drill the rivets out and pop a new one on. [may take awhile judging by how long these are taking]

tomt64
06-25-2010, 07:29 PM
I will never put on another body kit, what a hassle! Im happy with it mostly. Im not a body guy so it was an experience putting it on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/tomt64/Aftertrackday018.jpg

Went back for tuning again and made 300whp 243ft/lbs @ 15psi, would love to show you the dyno sheet but my scanner is not working.

Went out to the track again on the 22nd and I was much more satisfied with it this time improving cornering and speed.

Thanks to Wyn [dont know if I spelt his name correct sorry!] @ AutoDream for tuning, he is nothing but a standup guy, I told him exactly what I wanted, watched him the whole time and got exactly what I wanted. I would highly recommend him for PFC tuning.

Overfenders are still taking forever to get here should be another 2-3 weeks. Goddamn Origin shipping full containers :thumbsdow
