A few people have mentioned this place on here, but no real details.

Went there last night with the wifey. First and foremost, it was one the best meals I have EVER had in Calgary. A Thai place with authentic taste. Called at 5 for reservations, and the earliest they had was for 8:30. Showed up on time and right away it felt like a New York type restaurant. It’s small (50 cap) with 2 feet space between the party next to you. To some that type of seating may feel cramped, I'm used to it. By 8:30 it was not overly packed so we had a table buffer on each side. Because it was so late, we skipped appys and salads and went straight for the entrees.

Ordered the (listing the content vs the Thai name) Beef/Mushroom/Baby corn, Cashew Chicken/Pineapples/Peppers/Onions, Pad Thai/Shrimp/Chicken, and a couple orders of Coconut rice. The Beef and Chicken were flavorful right into the meat vs just a sauce on top, and was complemented by the Coconut rice nicely. The noodles were quite flavorful as well. Make sure to order the Chili Peanut Sauce on the side as it gives everything the required kick. To top it off they gave complementary dessert consisting of Coconut Ice-cream with 4 kinds of fruit and topped with a Vanilla wafer. Both of us agreed that this place was better than our top New York Thai restaurants, which we swear by. Best for an intimate date or small group place. We have already planned to return next month with more people.

Ambience:4 (nothing extraordinary)
Price: $$ (Entrees under $20)
Service: 4 (not in your face, but not overly friendly either)
Food: 5+

ahh I am glad you reviewed it, we had reservations for next week. I have heard repeatedly how terrific it is.

I am looking forward to our meal.

This is my favourite Thai restaurant in the city. We order take-out from there all the time.

CCTH has been a gem in this city for years. I've eaten at both locations but personally prefer the one on 17th ave just a bit more.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I went to the one on 11th Ave by The Keg. I just googled Thai Food Calgary...and the Chili Club on 11th kept popping up as top rated. I will assume the menu is the same but is the one on 17th similar in size?

We were probably there at the same time, as we had our reservations for 8pm on Sat night.

I've been going to the location on 11th Ave for many years, and it's probably my favorite place to go for dinner. I've never tried the one on 17th Ave.

Chili Club is the best Thai food in Calgary. I've been to almost every other one, and none have even come close to the quality of Chili Club. It's so good, that I drive from the far south to Chili Club to get take out.

For not being to the one you went to, I would say that your description matches that of the 17th location. It is pretty small with only a couple feet between tables.

Just went there with the gf tonight and loved it! The poor waiter was so busy and we waited a bit long for our food but it was worth it. The dessert at the end of the meal was a nice surprise too. I love the beef salad...mmm.

Food is top notch.

A bit pricey though for what you get. King and I gives wayyyy bigger portions.

ie, Rice is not included with your entres
ie, amount of food in entre is tiny
ie, amount of food in appetizers is tiny

etc...

The food is top notch.

No their two locations are DT across from the Keg on 11th AVE? They also have a place near 17th AVE and 37St SW

The one downtown is on 11th Ave and 5th St SW. Its in the same complex as Mac's/CPU/Singapore Sam's.

The 11th ave location just last week was disappointing. For just a smidgen more coin, I'd go to the King and I.

I went to this one and it was dogshit... not a traditional thai item on the menu. It was all run of the mill Chinese fast food garbage.

We went to the King and I on Sunday evening. The place itself is nice enough and the guy who served us was very attentive.

The appetizers were very nice but their Massaman Beef curry was SO SO mild - to the point of just being totally bland. Having been to thailand a few times we were quite disappointed and will try Thai Chili Club House and Ruan Thai now.

Ok....so we were looking for somewhere to eat tonight and decided to give Ruan Thai on 11th Ave a go after being disappointed at the King and I.

All I can say is this restaurant does great authentic thai food. We both had Tom Yum Gai (chicken) to start and it was excellent. Then she had Red Curry and I had Panaeng Curry. Both were fantastic and easily as good as many of the thai meals we've had over in thailand.

Highly recommended!!!

Went there a few years ago and it was great food. Forgot about that one so I'll have to check it out again.

That is a terrible website. Just terrible.

Speaking of thai food and terrible websites, I went to this place last week:
www.thai-nongkhai.com/

It was quite good, not terrific, but not too bad. I'm curious whether anyone has any comments about it compared to other thai restaurants listed in this thread.

I have been to

Ruan Thai
Thai Sa-On
King and I
Thai Boat

and none of the above compares to Chili Club. IMO.
