That said, i'd go with the G8 GT.

^ :werd: G8 GT FTW.

Peak output is rated at 365hp (272kW) and 350lb-ft (474Nm), making the Taurus SHO the most powerful application of EcoBoost so far. Ford is yet to reveal any performance or fuel-economy figures but expect to see 0-60mph times in the low six seconds bracket.
But 365hp/350lb-ft... damn that's actually pretty good compared to other similar priced V6 sedans out there.

Maxima 3.5 V6: 290
Accord 3.5 V6: 271
Camry 3.6 V6: 268

Fuel economy numbers aren't given yet, but overall a pretty good looking Ford.

My friend has a 91 Taurus SHO, and yeah, it's a Taurus...but that thing moves. There's nothing better than surprising ricers with a Taurus.

That should be good for Ford!good to see a decent perfomance sedan from them again.I still want a G-8 GXP over the Taurus, but i still like it.

The truly is the smartest looking Taurus ever by a long shot.

I agree though, the G8 is still likely a better pick.

Good looking car. It looks elegant and refined. Something i never would have imagined i would say about a Ford sedan. Impressive numbers too, but i would never buy one.

Not bad looking, the headlights really remind me of the Acura TSX or TL.

I agree with everyone above in that I'd never own one. For the record, I'm 33 with kids...

the SHO is roughly 50k Canadian. How are they similarly priced? The SHO is competing with the IS350 and G35 Sedan. Which both blow it out of the water.

365hp and 0-60 in low 6 seconds. That thing must weigh more than a tank.

nope - I actually think it looks good.

I'm actually trying to figure out what car it'd compete with. I can't think of any AWD ~365hp sedan that this Ford would compete with. Unless they're gunning after Audi (which is an odd target), or they're trying to cut their own niche.

Where are the haters - the "Oh it's a American car, it's unreliable, the interior is going to be cheap, there will be lots of fit/finish issues, etc"

Mitsu3000gt
02-11-2009, 09:31 AM
0-60 in over 6 seconds?

$38k USD??????

Subjective, but I think its absolutely hideous.

Resale will be abysmal as usual, especially with the ridiculous price.

Epic fail IMO

Many of the mainstream family sedans, Camry, Accord, Legacy GT, etc. are faster in a straight line to boot.

There are just way too many cars I think most people would buy before they even thought about dropping ~$50k Canadian for this IMO.

But how do you get around the fact that it's slow? Who cares if it has 2000hp if it's made of lead and weights 20,000 tons

And IMO it doesn't look good. It looks plain. It looks good for a Ford, but the G35, IS350 and 335i all look way better.

I can't, that's why I won't buy it.

For the money i'd rather buy the G8 GT despite the lack of awd. I still think the car looks decent.

It's actually not that good especially when it has about the same size engine or bigger with TWO snails. Will be interesting to see what type of performance modifications will be available for this.

This is a full size AWD sedan, hence the weight. The closest competition would be G8 and 300C.

A remote competitor would be Acura TL SH-AWD and G35x and may be A4/S4.

I would drive that way before something like the new TL for about the same price. And I like the fact they don't put a bunch of gaudy tacked on looking body parts trying to make it look like a 17 year olds 'sports' car.

If it suffers the typical Ford depreciation I might consider picking one up in 2011.

Redlyne_mr2
02-11-2009, 12:12 PM
^^ Agreed, the Mondeo looks so much better and doesnt have the same bad stigma as the Taurus name. Whenever I think of a Taurus I think of that busted ass car from Road Trip.

For $50K I'd take either of the SRT8 models with rwd and 425hp/tq.

But I do like the progression of the Taurus and ford as a whole. It would make a great family cruiser.

There are enough SHO diehards to make this car feasible.

02-11-2009, 01:22 PM
sweet maybe my 95 SHO will finally be worth something LOL.
Finally Ford is building decent cars but this is way too much money and is competeing with much better cars and this will be worth 10,000 in a couple of years.

I don't care though I bought my 95 SHO for $1200 and it has 240hp. Pretty good bargin and will surprise most cars on the road especially the ricers...ultimate sleeper.
Has a Yamaha engine and a Mazda/Borg Warn Trans, I guess the new one is all Ford....yikes.

02-11-2009, 01:32 PM
I think its pretty good looking, seems they took the styling off of a TSX. I do think it looks a little boring for being TT V6, looks more like a luxary car then something meant to go. I agree with the above posters that the G8 GXP would be a better buy. I was down at shaganappi south a month ago and they were trying to sell me one off the lot for -$11,000 off sticker + 10 year warranty . I told them I'd never buy a GM vehicle untill I could afford a corvete so they tried to see if they could finance me one lol.. American car companies are so desperate to start selling cars, it wouldn't suprise me if dealers were selling the car for more than $5k less than sticker.

I like the new look but that should be the STANDARD taurus and the SHO should have much more oompf in terms of look. 6+ seconds ain't worthy either.

Aleks
02-11-2009, 01:58 PM
Where does it say it will cost $50K CAD?

For people that say they would take the G8 over this have any of you actually sat in the G8. Interior looks great in pics but it's awful in real life.

I am willing to bet this thing ends up being faster than the G37 and IS350 up here. Not to mention that simple ECU mods will probably bring the power up to 400hp easily.

benyl
02-11-2009, 02:24 PM
Yep, this car will be a cheaper 335xi... I am sure it will be easier to tune and won't have ECU updates that BMW keeps putting out to try and combat tuners.

Looks sort of like the computer is stepping in at the top there, which means those turbos have quite a bit of headroom.

I wonder how long it will take before someone makes a new iteration of the Ford SHOgun (http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index&catid=&topic=4).

BAAAAAD move...as if the "sleeper" approach for the old SHO was a gooder, either.

I dont know if that is enough excitement for that price! Look at the Genesis...I am betting the interior will be nicer and more refined then the ford. Not to mention that the value of that car will drop like a rock on the used market. Good effort though,..just might be too late,

Love this car!

I would totally buy this car! It is very much improved from pervious designs. Finally they have styling to match the power!

The idea of having a V6TT is probably the best idea they came up with though they should have thought of that before having Yamaha make an unreliable V8 for the earlier model.

The price tag seems a bit scary at first. When you go back to pricing for an SHO in 1998, it was $47,000 MRSP, which doesn’t seem too unreasonable in comparison.

I love the look of the car but way too expensive. And the power figures look good but the 0-60 is nothing impressive :dunno: Not to mention it'll drive like a boat. The only thing I can really see it competing against is the Legacy GT or maybe the G35X or the A4/S4. All of those cars stomp it though and they'll drive a hella lot better.

According to BMW's website 335i does 0-60 in 5.7s. The truth is it's faster than that. And that's a 6 cyl TT.

I am willing to bet a V6TT Taurus would out accelerate all the cars you mentioned up there in Calgary. Maybe not where they test them but we live here so that's all that's relevant for us, that's unless it weighs a lot more.

I watched 335s run at race city last summer and G35s and the difference was over a second and close to 6-7 mph at the trap. Turbos make a nice difference up here.

^^Most stock LGT's are running high 13's, dunno about at Race city but it shouldn't be too far off since they're FI cars. Car and Driver do have em ranked as one of the fastest cars for under $25000 I think.

But this is coming from somebody who owns one so I'm biased.

Everone here are such hates of domestics...

To be honest, I'm not a "huge" fan, but what I am is a fan of these European models funneling down and their R&D, likely following

Ford Focus ST/C30/Mazda3 = Same Chasis

The Focus ST & C30's 2.5L turbo engine is apparently a Yamaha source'd design

In the case of this new Taurus, I like the look as it carries a similarity to yes the Mondeo and is closer in size to the Volvo S80

but guys... come on these naive comments are based off badge reputation alone.

Some good port overs are cars like the G8, Astra, Fusion, etc...

Once Ford standardizes their lines, I think they'll make headway (also once they figure out their supply chain mgmt once and for all)
