Anyone knowledgable in these things that could recommend what to look for or compare when shopping for one?

Is HD the best place to buy one of these?

Home depot's never the BEST place to buy anything, but if you can't get your foot in the door of the plumbing wholesaler... then it probably is. Look for energy efficiency these days.

Check prices directly with big plumbing companies. Only go with the small ones if you know of them personally and/or they already work for large companies but will do it as a friend (for money), but they had proper training.

A friend owning a restaurant thought he could save $100-300 with a no-name uncle-bob type of guy... I helped run their restaurant for 1 month so they could take a vacation... What do you know? The hot water tank went (inner filler tube or some shit like that)... called friend on vacation and grabbed their contact binder, called "uncle-bob" he says he remembers the CASH install which was only 8-10 months ago... BUTTTTTTT "I'm too busy for you right now, why don't you call some companies in the phone book, see you later"

Fuck you "uncle-bob" type of backyard plumbers. I had to front $600 of my own money calling from the phone book, that's just for a FIX. (it's the tube that sensors temperture telling the boiler to heat up or not, kind of like a thermonstant on a car)

To be fair, they (restuarant owner and installer) both cheaped out installing a residential tank in a commercial use setting.
