I'm lookin at expanding my usual places of going. I have been frequenting neighbourhood pubs etc. Looking for something a little more upscale but not extreme like Vicous circle and the like. Something with music and food, but not too loud. Basically a place to have dinner before clubbing.

Ideas? Recomendations?

V-bar is alrite. It was the old fuel on Stephen's Ave. The music isn't as good since Cary left, but it has a nice atmosphere. Same food as Earls tho :thumbsdow

Crush isnt bad, if you can get a booth on the left side (anywhere away from the pooltable, seems to attract boisterous mid 30s males lol)

If you want a pub, my choices would be:

Coach and Horse
Darby Arms
Limmericks
Bull and Finch (The one in Bridlewood)
Kilt and Caber
Seanachie Pub
Ironwood Grill
Village Cantina

If you want a drink and good dinner place that isn't just for the food:

Belgo
DiVino Wine Bar
Opus on 8th
Gypsy Bistro
1410 Beer Haus
Muse
Zia Enoteca (Wine Bar)
Vin Room (High end wine bar)

there is a new place called Fergus & Bix Restaurant and Beer Market, but it's on the very western edge of the city. the food is OK (but not spectacular), but they have a great microbrew beer selection. a bit out of the way, though. actually, it's REALLY out of the way.

riverstone on 4th and northmount is a really great, unpretentious neighborhood pub. they have an average beer selection, and average pub menu, however their food is REALLY high quality and REALLY cheap for what you get. best BLTs i've ever had. good pizzas, too.

the Hop In Brew on 1st st W and 12th ave (?) has an AWESOME beer selection, and AWESOME pizza as well. it's in an old turn of the century house that is super cozy and quiet, and nice for doing some work or reading by yourself, or having a nice conversatoin with a few pals. i think they have a pool table upstairs. love going there.

Drum & Monkey is great.. 1st St SW and about 12th Avenue, good cheap food

Village Cantina in Inglewood is a gem.. I go there all the time

The Ship & Anchor on 17th Ave has VERY inexpensive food that is pretty good

1410 on 17th Ave is also pretty good. It is almost at 14th St SW

I think you are referring to "No-Name". I think it's gone.

Yeah, its actually a pretty cool place went there a few weekends ago and we ended up trying just over half of the beer selection they had(they have around 90), they also have a house dj after 10 on sat mixing up old school hip hop, electronica and rock.

Good suggestions so far, just a note, Crush no longer has a pool table (I guess they wanted to move to a more intimate feeling dining room).

So feel free to go without worrying about the crack of pool balls (unfortunately it was also my favorite place to play pool in the city :\ )

I really like Fergus N Bix. It's a great date night place as it's right behind COP. Go for the 20$ 7-9 ski and take her down the back way out and hit fergus n bix, it's about 5 minutes from the hill. Great food, great beer.

That sounds like a good idea. Very nice. Anyone else with experience there?

On a side note, I never had any gayness happen at No-Name.
