Higher end places...

The Trough (Won a few awards) http://www.thetrough.ca/contact.html

Murrietas Very nice and great view of the mountains. http://www.murrietas.ca/webpage/1001784/1000533

Iron Goat is also a possibility and a bit more inexpensive, and an even better view. http://irongoat.ca/

what price range dude? are there any cuisines that she particularly likes/dislikes? are you looking for somewhere to 'dress up' or somewhere more casual? what about alcohol - looking for nice wine selectoin, beer, want a full bar etc.?

EDIT: yes crazyweed has very good food, but again it kinda depends on what you're looking for.

I love the Iron Goat, it has great food, but is slightly more casual. Be forwarned if you are looking for something more intimate and "fine dining".

I've been to Tapas a dozen times and never been disappointed. They have a cozy atmosphere with a live Spanish guitarist on weekends, and the food and service are spectacular.

One of my favorite restaurants pretty much anywhere has been Zona's. They have a different chef's creation soup everyday and their caesar salad is sooooo freakin' good.... Put it this way. I really hate caesar salad, but I can easily eat 2 freakin' huge bowls of theirs, it's that good. I took my wife there on the night I proposed to her and now it's a regular stop. We'll even drive out to Canmore just to eat there. And best of all, price is reasonable, not absurd.

Zonas is ok, it was nicer before the reno... do they still turn that place into an E-tard raver place on the weekends? We went for dinner there late on a fri or sat and it started to get really weird as the night went on.

The Trough is amazing, amazing! The best place I have ever eaten.

Crazyweed was quite good too.

Pocket Change! lol.

I've been to Murrieta's a few times and have always enjoyed myself. The menu isn't huge, but everything I've ordered has been good. Nice inside, good view. Try the chocolate fondue if you're considering desert.

My one experience with crazyweed wasn't great... They have a nice patio, good times in the summer, but we had a few problems with our food... There was about 7 of us in our group and had two or three complains. Maybe it was just an off night, who knows.

yea, zona's used to be one of my favorite restaurants too, but it absolutely sucks now, and I would never recommend it to anyone.

i've only been to murrieta's in canmore one time, but our food was boring and very poorly prepared. i've always had good food at the calgary location, so i'm not sure if we went on an off day, or if there was some problems with the kitchen staff, but i hope they've worked it out cause it's nice to have there on main st.

If you're looking for a pub environment, I've always had great food and awesome micro brew beer at the Grizzly Paw.

+1 for grizzly paw, but again, is this something your gf would be into on her bday? (OP seems to have abandoned the thread)

Your thinking of the Wood not crazyweed. The Wood is on the end of main street with a really nice patio, their food was over priced before; however, I've heard that they now have more of a pub style menu with reasonable prices.

Another 1 for Crazyweed.
