Just as stated in the title.

Has anyone here been there? I just need some info about what places are great to go to? Should I bring a lot of money for shopping? General info? Food?

Anything would work.

Thanks

Ive been....stayed at atlantis paradise hotel...was a great vacation, though very very expensive. I think it cost me 12,000 for my 2 kids, wife and me to go.

Would i go back...if it was an all inclusive perhaps.

Sean Connery went in one of th 007 films... can't remember which one.... Thunderball I think. Looked nice. If you go scuba diving, look for a sunken plane covered in camoflauge.

It was one of the stops on my cruise last time.

Nice place for sure. Only got to look around a small amount as the ship was departing the next day, but still very nice.

As for shopping, bring lots of money if you plan to scoop up some good deals on jewlery. IIRC the jewlery in the carribean is cheaper than what you'd find here. Rather pushy salespeople in most of the shops tho. Try something on and they assume the sale is closed.

Went there with the wife and another couple a few years ago and stayed at the Sandals all inclusive in Nassau. Small island and so not too much to do. The excersions were terrible, so don't recommend.

Took the ferry over to paradise island and 'snuck' into Atlantis and walked around there.

Went to the market but did not buy anything there.

There are higher end shops in the downtown area that you can shop around at. The prices are better than in Canada at the time.

The currency they use are either US or their local dollar. The US dollar was on par with their local dollar and so can be used in place of their local dollar.

Take the bus for $1 and the people are usu friendly enough that they will help you with directions. The taxi is a rip off, so if you don't mind asking for directions or for which bus to take, take the bus. Runs all the time.

There is an area on their main road (in Nassau) where there is a clusters of restaurants. They call it the 'Fish Fry'. I actually thought that one of the restaurants was called the Fish Fry but one of the employee at the resort told me the whole area was called the Fish Fry. Go there for a meal if you are not going to be at an all inclusive. Get the conch!!! I had conch every day!!

There are night clubs that you could go to as well but we did not hit any of them. Also, other all inclusive resorts within walking distance from Sandals has gambling you could do as well.

We basically went to relax so did not do too many things. Hope that helps. Have a good time.

I got a round trip with 6 days in Atlantis with a friend, only cost us $1,400 a pop through a west jet special. Amazing place I loved it, although food and drinks and night life was extremely expensive ended up being about a $3,000 trip/each.

I wrote out basically our whole trip for you but I'll put it into points first
so you can read more into detail if you really feel like it.

Must see/have things in Nassau"
-Compass Point restaurant and Wendle Johnson's CD.
- Jitney rides for a dollar (Super fun just to ride them cuz they all drive crazy there!)
- The Fish Fry, such a cool place to experience the Bohemian culture and way of life. Conch Salad, Kalik (equivalent to "Corona").
- The Straw Market...Bring small bill denominations because these people stop at nothing to make a sale. Barter for items and be stiff about it lol.
- High end designer stores...even if you don't buy anything at least you can say you've held a $4,000 Gucci purse.
- Paradise Island...Walk the bridge if you want, its a one time thing you don't really need to go back..the Atlantis waterpark and hotel is pretty cool though. Bring a zillion dollars...inflation much?
- Hit the Fast Ferry to Harbour Island..make this a day trip..the island is so small the transportation system their is golf-carts!! (you can rent them when you get off the ferry)
the pink sand beach is amazing, I filled a water bottle full of sand and water it looks cooll!
- All in all a very fun trip and I am definitely going back soon! I had such a good time and the trip is only as expensive as you want it to be.

I was their last May for about a week. We stayed at the Orange Hill Beach Inn....its a small hole in the wall not far from anything and considering you take the "Jitney" (bus) for a dollar anywhere on the island basically it was convenient.
We experienced almost everything when we went...Our hotel is not 5star quality but why spend all the time in your hotel room when its plus 30 outside?
Anyways our hotel was the farthest east to everything thats attractive, except for compass point.
If you go to Nassau visit this restaurant...they have a guy that goes by the name of "Wendle Johnson" who sings really catchy and somewhat funny songs and he's really into the crowd of dinner guests. You can buy his CD (I can burn you a copy if you really want when I find it)
As you head more to the west of our hotel you pass by all the resorts such as Sandals and Breezes. You also pass the "Fish Fry" as mentioned before which is an absolute blast on Sunday nights (party night for them). The Conch salad is a MUST HAVE ITEM so do order it.
As far as shopping goes when you first head into town the jitney stops right in front of a Subway in the middle of downtown (basically their bus depot). From there you get out and walk around downtown which is fairly small.
Across the street from the Subway there is a place called the "Straw Market" this is where you will find many uncomparable fake designer items such as purses, wallets, watches, shoes, hats, dufflebags...almost anything.
If you go into the straw market bring your poker face and negotiation skills....you can barter for anything their for usually 75% off what they ask. (Got a nice fake hat for like 9bucks american)
Aside from all the fake stores you can travel down the same street and run into the high end shops such as Gucci, Coach, Lacoste and jewelry stores who sell high end designer stuff like that.
From the edge of downtown we took a short taxi ride to the edge of the bridge that leads to Paradise Island and we walked the 2km (I think its that long) bridge because the locals tell us the view is incredible, which it is. And we stormed into the Atlantis..
The Atlantis is one of those places if you've seen it once...you've seen it all. It has alot of modern/westernized stores and attitude...(Starbucks, more high end designer stores etc.)
Out front of the starbucks is a marina that houses multi-million dollar yachts...Im talking cranes onboard that lift out sea-doo's and 10man crews on deck. As far as the Atlantis goes, don't buy drinks they cost an arm and a leg...Im talking 10bucks for a Vodka/Cran in a party cup. Aside from the inflation in the hotel..you can always play in their casino and waste away more money or you can walk alongside the aquarium that houses some pretty cool animals (Manta rays, Nurse sharks and other cool tropical fish).
Another thing you can do which is pretty cool is take the "Fast Ferry" to Harbour Island (Pink sand beaches!!! Literally! :O) you also drive past other islands and cool places like Spanish Wells and the Devil's backbone! (Might be a myth).
They say this part of the ocean has such a strong current that druglords dump bodies and other thiings that they want to get rid of here...the fast ferry cruises in the middle of it at about 60mph and this ship holds about 200people. Thats pretty much all worth seeing!

i went to the atlantis hotel in july, i thought it was very nice but you have to have alot of money to have fun there. the water park was nice with i think 5 slides with huge lines. the lazy river was awsome, and easy to get on. the beach was big enough for the amount of people, lots of pools but you must be down early.

i won't go back unless it's with kids and it's all inclusive. also it was very hot when i went, i can normally take the heat all day but i couldn't that time.
