Registering Marriage

I got married overseas and now I need to get it registered here. How do I go about this? Do I go to the registries with a copy of my marriage certificate?

I am asking out of curiosity because we get questions like this all the time...

Well the government has me listed as single in their system. No one told me, I am just inquiring. Do I just call them and tell them "I am married now"?

Sorry... I re-read my post and it sounds super bitchy.

So, if you get married anywhere else... that marriage is registered in that jurisdiction. When you come back to Alberta, your girl goes to the registry and provides the marriage certificate to change her name etc.

For your marital status with CRA etc, you call them. Depending on the rep you get on the phone, they may ask for a copy of the certificate.

If it is not in english you will have to get it translated.
