May as well make a new thread since the NHL thread might get cluttered.
First trade of the day...
(Ott) trades Vermette for (CBJ)Leclaire and a 2nd Round Pick
I think this is overpayment for Vermette and a great deal for Ottawa

Good stuff. The NHL thread is filled with Canucks talk for some reason... :dunno:
Agree with the overpayment for a Vermette.

But is Leclaire really going to be the one to solve Ottawa's goaltending problems, they seem to take decent goalies and make them bad or not work out..

No question, this is a lopsided trade. I'm surprised Columbus wouldn't have asked for more...

I agree it is a bit lopsided assuming Leclaire recovers fine from his surgery. That and the fact that Ottawa isn't getting anything until next year. Very little chance Leclaire will play this season which rendered him useless for Columbus right now. They are trying to push strong for the playoffs so I think the trade make sense.

There are other factors invloved.... Columbus needed a player to play now to push to get into the playoffs.

I'm curious as to what Burke's gonna do. He knows how to put together a good team, but he's got his hands full with the Leafs.
I agree its overpayment, but it is a goalie they arent playing, and its going to be interesting to see what vermette is really made of. I think he'll do better away from the sens.

If they're not gonna play Leclaire this season, why not wait until the off-season to try and land a UFA...?? Probably could've traded for Leclaire in the summer and send Vermette for decent prospects.

Because they got a good deal this way. They landed a draft pick and a goalie to a player they were looking to deal. The deal works for both teams here.

I'm iffy on him. He'll solidify the first line for sure but Conroy's been doing a decent job up there lately.
I didn't think Calgary could've locked Cammy up in the off-season anyhow.

Don't know how you could not be interested in Jokinen. I think he'd put us over the top.
He's a proven 90 point scorer who has played for Keenan in the past, and his contract is a deal at 5.25 mil for another season.

Is Leopold going to sign with us though? According to TSN, hes a UFA after this season...
And they better not trade Lombo..at least if Sutter is smart, he won't. Quoting my post from the Flames thread...
Sutter isn't going to let Lombo go. We need more players like him, not less. We just got Glencross and Bourque for this season...granted, those two don't play much with Lombo (IMO, Lombo belongs on the top line with Iggy and Cammalleri), but those three are probably the fastest guys on the team.
But my point is, Lombo is young, fast, relatively cheap, and he can play some good hockey. He's not scoring as much as Cammalleri, but he can set up some nice goals if he has backup behind him (case in point, Iggy's first goal last night), and he's one of those guys that when he scores, the goal ends up being a huge one.
Lombardi, Cammalleri and Iginla are playing really well together this season- I'd almost say its foolish to get rid of him.

If Sutter doesn't think Cammalleri is signing, the Lombardi + 1st for Jokinen is an incredible steal.
Basically the Flames would've given up Lombardi and two draft picks for Jokinen and Leopold.
Unbelievable work by Sutter if this happens.

Olli Jokinen since the lockout:
2006: 38 G 51 A - 89 PTS
2007: 39 G 52 A - 91 PTS
2008: 34 G 37 A - 71 PTS
2009: 21 G 21 A - 42 PTS
Totals: 132 G 161 A - 293 PTS
Michael Cammalleri since the lockout:
2006: 26 G 29 A - 55 PTS
2007: 34 G 46 A - 80 PTS
2008: 19 G 28 A - 47 PTS
2009: 33 G 31 A - 64 PTS
Totals: 112 G 134 A - 246 PTS
Jokinen has a cap hit of 5.25 million next year. If Sutter thinks Cammalleri won't resign for less 6 million why wouldn't he make this move to try and win the cup this year?
ok some of you guys aren't using your head.
you obviously need to give quality to get quality.
lombardi+1st+defensemen is well worth olli.
olli is a legit #1 center who is signed to a pretty good contract.
he had 3 consecutive 70+ seasons and 30+ goals post lock out in freaking florida. you put squid and fucking jarome iginla on his wings and i guarantee he will be a ppg player.

Agreed Cammalleri is as good as gone next year (unless the Flames dump Langkow, Iggy or Phaneuf).
So they might as well pick up Jokinen (knowing that Cammi is gone) in hopes of signing him cheaper next year to a 1-2 season contract.

That is a good point, but you also have to realize that Cammalleri didn't really start scoring and playing really well until he came to Calgary, and the skill that he shows while playing with Iginla, Bertuzzi, etc.. is just impeccable, and I don't believe we can afford to lose him.

Lombardi has only been a key player on the top line and the PK, if you look at our other players that have stepped it up this year such as Moss, Bourque, Boyd, Glencross, their contribution has been a lot more than Lombardi,
Confirmed Calgary gets a 3rd round pick with Jokinen, with Phoenix getting the first rounder with Calgarys option to be either this years draft or next year
