I think i'd pull over for this bad boy....

Two were in this one, two more in a GMC Suburban with strange windows so i'm assuming it has bulletproofing

And an unmarked tahoe.

hey that thing was at the sev on 130th ave the other day when i was filling up, the driver (cop obviously) told my brother it was based on a F550 chassis or some ford truck chassis, its an Armet Balkan, CPS tactical unit's replacement for previous unpractical M113 apc/lav whatever you want to call it, so dumb for city use.

Lots of police agencies are getting those now. You've seen them on Dallas SWAT and stuff like that on A&E. It is indeed the Tactical Team's response unit.

I wanna see them put a Dillon Aero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOyt6imlgLo) on the helicopter. :)

Wonder how these handle compared to an armored truck (i.e. trucks that go pick up bank's monies)... Given these can probably take bigger bullets or two I'm assuming.

I'd like to know too. I know what our trucks (Brinks) can stop, and it would be neat to compare.

most definitely there "Urban Assault Vehicle " UAV that was mentioned in the paper of them picking up one.

Same light grayish blue as the Calgary TAC team uniforms.

Its purpose is to transport TAC team members in safely with off road capability. Basically it can pop the curb into the front door of your house tie a line to the rear and rip the door off while ripping the terrain with it.

It also has a Commanders canopy on the top for a quick assessment of the area before breaching or planning.

Anybody remember that Conquest Knight vehicle?

http://forums.beyond.ca/st/247210/id-take-this-over-a-hummer-anyday/

That thing is ridiculous.

And I've seen General Dynamics drive their APC's down Deerfoot before... I would take the APC over that thing anyday.

Seems more directed towards attempted bombings. Bulletproof vehicles don't need that much armour.

That's a perfectly cromulant word.

And it's definitely the same vehicle you can't see in my pic but the top part where a person can pop out is a giveaway. However I'll be upset if it has a PS3 in it like the link posted says it does.

May I commend you on the nice incorporation of cromulant into a post.

Really? You do know that there are different kinds of bullets, right? Protection against military rifle rounds looks much different than protection against handgun rounds.

I think that the vehicle will be sufficiently armored for your run of the mill 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds, especially since AK's are easy to get hold of... well maybe not easy, but fairly easy. Now something like a .50 caliber round out of something like a M107 is completely different. That said, most groups with the firepower of a M107 would most likely have extremely good military training and theres not much that would be able to stop them anyways.

Maybe...But I am very confident what you drive is no faster than HAWC....

is it bad if I have seen that and a couple excursions circling my house?

HAWC is a Eurocopter EC120 Colibri
# Never exceed speed: 278 km/h (150 knots, 172 mph)
# Cruise speed: 223 km/h (120 knots, 138 mph)
# Range: 710 km (383 nm, 440 mi)
# Service ceiling: 5,182 m (17,000 ft)

be tough to out run unless it was already low on fuel

Most bulletproof vehicles are only rated for certain types of ammo. You put a big enough bullet into anything "bulletproof" and it'll go through.

It doesn't even look THAT armoured. No more than we have at Brinks.

Rail is cast iron. And they're not that thick, really. The rail surface is, but the support is only about 3/4 inch thick. I can see a .50 going through that.

And no, there's no way those tires will hold up to a .50 caliber round. That big a round will cut a man in half with one shot, so those tires will be destroyed.

You sure know your painted tarmac. Wow. Yes it was the sobeys parking lot. You must be the guys i see hanging outside of 7-11 ;)

Bridlewood does have an unusual amount of crime for a new neighbourhood. I hope that stops.

how many people in calgary have a .50cal?
Then how many people with a .50cal are going to go try and do something to get that much attention?

By then that one car is going to be the least of there problems.

The tac team likes to hang in the Sobeys parking lot there, say them training a bunch last winter.

BTW, those tires and wheels are double beadlocks, you can run them at zero PSI with no issues.
