Anyone have any experience w/these cars? Apparantly they're one of chrysler's better vehicles...

I think it's the opposite. I see many of those with blown engines in the classifieds all the time.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of a Cirrus?

You can use the sponge to clean up the mess if you buy one.

I worked in the dealer, it is JUST an intrepid. one of the bigger PITA to work on, hated them.

engines, well there is 2 options, one is bad for waterpumps(timming chain driven) failing, the other is bad for botom end problems.

they are barely a step up from a neon in quality, but cost much more to fix then a neon.

is this the like with all year intrepids? my mom just bought one in very good shape and looks to be maintained well. its a 2000 and she only bought it for 1500 off of her friend. what should she watch out for on this car?

Took one for a test drive down at lawrence and hooker, they seem to be fairly good in terms of ride quality...a little bit on the bigger side obviously not a sports car, but I heard some nasty things about the 2.7...but as long as I go easy on it i guess i should be ok, right?

An unreliable POS from everything I've ever heard about it. I had one as a rental before as well and it was absolutely abysmal in every way other than maybe trunk space.

Not very good looking at all imo. It isn't fast, the build quality is poor and the resale value is shit. This car doesn't have much going for it other then its huge size.

If it's a late model, loaded Concorde, they're comfortable as hell and VERY quiet on the inside.

But get the 3.5L V6 if you do. The 2.7L has oiling issues in that generation.

Oiling issues that eat engines.

As a result, buying one is a really a crapshoot because you can't guarantee the previous owner did his oil changes as religiously as he may suggest, not to mention he may not be the original owner.

My neighbor has one(LX Model) I'm sure if you looked after it
it would last a good while, but if it has an A604 Chrysler tranny, expect probs after 160,000kms, that seems to be the most common time for them to start giving you grief, I doubt it has a 5 spd swap available for it either.

My understanding is the passages are too small to begin with. My mother used to have one and had it since new, it only made it to 130k when it died. And she definitely wasn't hard on it, and it had all the proper service. Just garbage.

They are not the best vehicles ever made, but they are cheap as hell to buy used. Just realize it'll have next to no resale value.

Resale value, on a long enough timeline, drops to NIL. If he's buying the car as a "drive it 'til it dies" car, resale isn't a big factor, IMO.

the 3.5 is the better engine to have, but leaks oil alot, inner tie rod ends beat out of those cars often, no resale value.

just be ready for lots of maintenance to keep the car going,

I would own one, but then I am a mechanic and can fix it myself.

front end parts and leaks will nickle and dime you probably on that.

My Mother in law had the comparable Chrysler LHS, and it was a piece of something. In about the 4-5 times I drove it, twice I had to pull over on the side of the freeway because something started leaking. This was a 2002 model too. :thumbsdow
Just pick up an older Accord and call it a day.

you are right on TongueDog

the accord may be sporty but it sounds like patrik is looking for luxury. if so the concord (or maybe an import?) is the way to go.

I just noticed a TON of intepids/concordes as taxicabs tonight at the airport, wonder how many kms they are getting out of those engines,i was in a Impala cab one night and i asked the driver how many kms he had on it,he had 500,000 on the car and the engine died at 480,000....this is the killer.....Original tranny!he said its acting up but puts "special" oil in it to keep it going!this was a fwd Impala with the 3.4l v6.My point being is the chryslers must be somewhat reliable for all those cabbies to be using them.

look at it this way; there's a reason chrysler is going bankrupt.
