Hi,

I am looking for a Canon DSLR for my friend. It needs to be in good condition.

Canon sells refurbished RebelXTs for $250 (with warranty)
That will give you an idea of the price and camera I am thinking of.

I thought I would see if there was anyone local looking to sell their camera before I bought online.

Do your friend a favor and get a 20D or 30D, you can get them in the $300-400 price range if you shop around and they are quite a bit nicer than the Rebels, IMO.

I am a big fan of the 20D and 30D cameras, its hard to justify the price increase over the $250 RebelXT. The XT has almost the same featureset as the 20D.

I would be willing to pay $280 for a 20D and probably $320 for used 30D.
I've seen 40Ds go as low as $500, so I think that these are all fair prices.

Nos efx is selling a 40D in his fs thread with low actuation, that's about the cheapest you'll ever find a 40D, I own a 40D and recently my bf and I bough a 40D for his dad and the cheapest I found one for was $650, body only.

$600 for D300, $1000 for 5DII, $1500 for D3, $2000 for D3x ... etc etc .. we saw those stupid scam all the time .. and I think many thread from beyond has talked about it ..

To learn about MARKET price for used camera gears, can go to different photo forums etc .....

Or go ebay, check the "completed" price (not starting price) .. and add 25-30% .. since those are US pricing.

My mistake, the price for the 40D was $550.

Not a scam, this would have been a local deal.

The reason why I didn't get it was that I already have 2 Canon bodies and my GF wouldn't allow me to get another camera. This is before my friend was in the market for a camera unfortunately.

End result, I do know what "fair" prices are for cameras. The industry is moving very quick and new models are pushing down prices rapidly. Ex. Rebel X1i that was just released (50D feature set, Rebel pricing).
