What car would you buy ? Currently caught up between a S15 Spec-R or a RX7 Spirit-R but curious to see what you guys would pick up from the '02-'05 era.

If you have ever driven in Yokohama/Tokyo you would realize those cars would be a total waste. I'd own nothing bigger than a Honda Fit or Mini. In Japan i've driven 2 way roads that were as wide as an R34

if i had no care for financial issues it'd be an S15 with a Tomei SR22 or RB28.

If the unbelievable tax list of automobile tax, car weight tax, car aquisition tax, parking certificate, 2 year sha'ken inspection, the money to repair/replace up to sha'ken inspections, nostalgic/sports car tax, plain old insurance/registration fees and average $2 cdn/liter fuel mattered as it does for the majority of japanese civvies then it'd be an 05 Vitz RS, Turbo of course:D

When I lived in japan, one day while on business in Sendai I saw a white guy driving the most plain-jane black Ford F150...

...and it stood out more than anything.

I'd rock some sort of old school American muscle or a low-rider if I ever go back.

I had a very done up MKIV Toyota Supra to drive for a few weeks while I was there and I didn't get any looks at all...it was just too common.

...but an F150...damn, it stood out like a Maserati.

Probably a R34 GTR V-spec

or a Veilside RX7.

But if I had all the money in the world... probably something absolutely outrageous like a Pagani Zonda R or that new 599XX... who am I kidding though, those would be my cars anywhere though:D

Must have been an American serviceman. I believe they get their cars shipped out to wherever they are stationed...

lol I probably wouldnt bother getting a car.

If I had to it would probably be cheap small and boring, like a Vitz.

Or I'd go crazy and get a WS6 firebird and supercharge it.

What he said, i prolly wouldn't bother. Have to have a parking spot before you are even allowed to buy a car. And to whoever said that they wouldn't get a fast car cuz driving in japan sucks, yah if your driving in the city only, outside of the city its a blast. I drove a small Nissan something rather for 3 days in Okinawa, what a blast, and when you get to the highway it's even more fun. I love the roads in Japan, so well maintained and smooth.

I might be moving to Japan in a few years (still undecided, depends on how my career progresses) and I will most likely not get a car, since the train system is amazing and the inspections are crazy. My wife (japanese) told me that the older the car gets the more frequent the inspections, and they are not cheap (1k +)

Try upwards of 2-3K depending on what it is being inspected, and not in every prefecture are you require to show proof of a parking spot in order to purchase a vehicle...

...just most of them.

I'd be tempted to rock one of these, probably the Ayumi Hamasaki special  :
