Hey guys, with all the layoff threads as of late, I thought I'd make a post with all the different employers looking for people to eliminate some of the threads, and to generally provide help.
Feel free to post any other links in this thread if you know of any.

This is the city of Calgary's job listing board. A lot of the jobs are unionized, which means great pay generally, and other typical union benefits. https://pehcmw1.calgary.ca/psc/pdhr/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/ROLE_APPLICANT.ER_VIEW_JOBS.GBL?&
^ that may not work, so in that case try this link
http://www.calgary.ca/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_766_239_0_43/http%253B/content.calgary.ca/CCA/City+Hall/Employment/Career+Opportunities/Career+Opportunities.htm
Just click on Job opportunies.

here is a listing for (government based) various career fairs for in and around Calgary
http://www.calgary.ca/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_766_239_0_43/http%3B/content.calgary.ca/CCA/City+Hall/Employment/Career+Opportunities/City+Career+Fairs.htm

I saw this on the back of a pick up on my way through a drive-thru fast food place. I dont know the degree to which they're hiring, but its a good place to look
Pro-Line painting (403) 462-5027 The pay is between $18-25/hr
They look like they do residential and commercial painting.

There is also www.saskjobs.ca Which is a provicial job listing site for Sask. They have a much more stable economy then does Alberta currently.

Then there are the usual sites such as
www.monster.ca
www.calgaryjobshop.ca
http://www.calgarysun.com/ads/jobs/tmp/pdf/07_21_2.pdf
^ Also check out the back of both the Calgary Sun & the Calgary Herald, lots there too.
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/recruiting-recrutement/home-accueil/introduction-eng.htm
^ the RCMP, check out the sub sections too.

EDIT: Oh yeah, talk to these guys to see if they have any openings. (403) 299-4900 Thats the main switchboard for Checker/Co-op/Red-top cabs as well as Ambassador Limousine. They have a warehouse division, a body shop division, a mechanic shop (for the cabs) a radio installation shop, a courier business, and a hot shot type business, and of course a variety of positions within Ambassador Limousine itself... so there are lots of different positions within the company that are available.

Also, contact Canadian Waste services, they're typically hiring, as is Standens LTD. http://www.standens.com/employ.htm
BFI as well, come to think of it http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Alberta/BFI-Canada/2631573.html?what=canadian+waste+services&where=calgary%2C+AB&le=101822569ec

That should be good for now, if I think of any other sites I'll update this post.

Like I say, any other relevant sites or sources of info, post up. :)

Here is an excerpt from a post I made in another job related thread. I'll copy and paste it here so you guys can benefit from it.

Dont ever (ever) hand out generic resumes, as in with the "Dear Sir or Madam" on it, unless it is infact a career in the fast food industry or dollar store that you'd be interested in . If I was a manager; I'd huck that into the recycling bin pronto.
Honestly, if a person doesn't know anything about my company, or whos involved in it (staffing wise), or what type of positions that are typically available, chances are they will be last to be considered.
Call the company, and find out what if any positions are available, and what the HR persons name is. Then tailor each resume for THAT postion and place. Its more time consuming then handing out generic resume's to EVERYBODY, but then again chasing around like a fool handing out your resume (with your personal info on it, that can fall into ANYBODIES hands that works there) isn't very time effective or clever either.
After you've sent your resume, keep tabs on what day you sent it. If it was me, I'd say in my (custom written) cover letter that I'd be calling you (lets say) March 15th to further go over any questions they'd have.
Chances are they'll think about it and even come up with some questions to ask you, which is great as it makes them think about you. From there call them up on the day you said you'd call, and speak with them over the phone. To them that tells them your serious, and you WANT to work there.
If you follow that simple "checklist" (if you will) then I can almost guarentee you'd end up with at least a few interviews.... at absolute least... but thats only considering that your resume and cover letter don't suck. I hope you DO have a cover letter, as that sells you, and what you're capable of.

thanks for the thread graham. If I end up getting a job out of these i'll give you $50.

Dont worry about the $50, I dont care. :dunno: Yeah it would be nice but knowing there are numerous people that can keep their cars, houses, as well as their families in tact is worth a FUCK of a lot more then that, which is why I created this thread.

I said in another thread the East side marios in Chinook center is hiring as well.
I dont drive around Calgary looking for signs and asking around various businesses, but whenever I do spot one I try to mention it here. Hopefully others will do the same.
-Good luck!

Now I can't find a job in my field at all anymore, although i proably wouldnt be able to work anyways.

eek....that's a bummer dude. pretty much no one predicted this economic mess would happen at this time. there were lots of experts saying the economy would shatter due to the fundamentals, but no one guessed it would happen late last year. fuckin shame brotha.

Um.... possibly... but in this market? probably not. I know you dont want to hear that, but yeah... you kids with no experience (or just very limited experience) are an unneccessary risk to most employers. What motive would the prospective employer have to hire you over any other person that applied for the job with lets say numerous years experience and tons of good references?
The employeers really have their "pick of the litter" currently. Even places like McDonalds are being swamped with resume's.

I think he means qualified people. How many people could have gotten experience in urban planning, permitting, etc. but instead went off to the patch to make money. Not like they can hire them for something they aren't trained for.

It's a job fair for young people and there will be a bunch of bullshit like 7-11, sobeys, etc so it's not a super big deal. I'll probably just wear a nice pair of jeans and a dress shirt, dress shoes, nothing too fancy

Big lines, but me and my buds just walked to the front and in. So don't let the line discourage you heh.

Not a whole lot there though.

Flipping thru the paper and looking for a job would probable give a better result. So many people giving out resumes. I wouldn't doubt that half the employers throw out 3/4 of the resumes they get and look a fraction of their stack.

What a big fucking gong show of a "job fair"...

- 80-90% of the companies/employers didn't even accept resumes there.
- Seemed like 50-60% "don't have any opportunities, but you can apply if you want...blah blah blah" (this after the ad saying 100 companies and 5000 jobs).
- PACKED down there, both inside and out - line was already huge outside right at 1:30 (open) and inside there was like no room to move, and seemed every third person STUNK like shit.
- Haven't seen so many posers/trash/wannabe high schoolers since being in HS lol.
- Worst part, paid $12 for parking for shit all.

At least when I left 40 mins after arriving, nobody seemed to know about the "back" exit road by the agriculture bridge so I could get out fast and skip the line going out.

And no offense, but it seems like half the people there you can obviously tell why they don't have a job - either HORRIBLE personal hygiene, dressing like a slob, not giving a shit (ie. HS kids in "groups" of 4/5 blocking space/taking up room)....

Yea, a friend and I basically walked in then out. I hardly had any interest in any of the companies (should have known from reading that list posted) and shouldn't the kids be in school? fuck :thumbsdow

and those kids, fuck they SMELLED.

the $12 i paid for parking was a huge rip off considering most of the places there didn't have applications or even take in resumes.. wtf? I did score an interview with blockbuster though :poosie:

But i agree with everyone else stating its a waste of time.
I didn't pay the $12, parked at the casino and walked over.

I walked around the perimeter booths and walked out.
Effin waste of time.

Yeah words can not even explain how much of a waste of time that was. The only possible prospect I had out of that was with one construction place, the girl said I was the only qualified person all day since I already worked with heavy machinery before.

Here is what I learned from the job fair though:

1) Kids have NO interview or whatever skills. I was listening to kids and just thinking how they would get a fucking job anywhere.

One kid went up to College Pro Painters and said right when he got up, "I don't paint." Why the fuck did you even stop at the booth?

2) Kids have NO clue how to fucking dress. I mean I just wore a polo, jeans, and dress shoes (not what I normally wear to an interview, but it was casual in there) and kids were wearing torn fucking goth wear looking like tools. My brother got there and he was wearing a hoodie and I got pissed, but he took it off and had a dress sweater.

Another kid was all "hardcored" out with his fucking Gucci hat and shit. People are fucking dumb in this city.

3) Employers are fucking retarded. Half of them didn't no shit, and had absolutely NO people skills. I went up to TD and they weren't even hiring. I asked why the fuck they were even there, and the started saying something, and I just returned with, "This is fucking stupid." and left the place.

I talked to one girl there and she said the amount of people they had there that day was the amount of people that was there over the past 5 years put together.

Fucking waste of time...

lol dude I went up to a couple places that I could have a shot with (CIBC and ATB Financial) because I have a couple years uni under my belt and I think I made a decent impression but I walked up to the dude at TD Bank and literally I had not even shooken his hand or said what my name was and he was like 'yeah you're going to have to apply online'...i was like 'how can you expect me to make a good impression when you havent even heard me speak my name' and he was like 'well ur just going to have to apply online thats how they do it nowadays', and then i went on some spiel about how the point of a job fair is to meet and hire future employees and pick the best out of the best.

But yeah man I couldn't believe the place...it seemed like it was like 80% high school kids but shouldn't they of been in fucking school?! I was standing in line and I saw these two kids playing shot for shot. I wasn't even that dumb in high school.

my bad LOL, I think its time for me to change it anyway....
probably wouldn't be the wisest idea to open a thread titled as such at your workplace anyway though. :dunno:

Yeah, I very stupidly forgot to write the place down, but if you drive down 32nd ave NE, heading eastbound (starting at Deerfoot), you'll see the email address on one of those neon green "bold signs" for a larger warehouse type operation hiring ALL positions, as well as a sign for XScargo, as they are still looking to fill all positions. I was just there today.. but I forget the email addy for the first one.
I believe its [email protected] but I'm not entirely sure. :thumbsdow If anybody drives past it and can remember or write down what it is, please post it here.

I also checked in the classifieds of the Calgary Sun today, and there are 50 different jobs available. Everything from general laborer, to trades, to kitchen help.

Haha me too, underground casino parking FTW.

I landed an interview at ATB, so it wasn't entirely a waste of time for me.
I find out this week if I get the job, so hopefully it works out.
Did anyone else get an interview at ATB?

Hammerhead graphics is also hiring. Their based quite close to the Heritage flea market, which is due west exactly of Deerfoot meadows: only on Blackfoot I mean...

Its in a business complex of about 5 or so other businesses.

EDIT: The Safeway in South Center plaza (the same business park as Southcenter mall, you honestly can't miss it) is hiring experienced bakers. Apply within.
