I'm hoping to pick up a new HDTV in the next week or 2 ,and I'm wondering if Speed or TSN broadcast F1 in true HD ??

Who will have the best coverage ?? Speed normally has the most coverage , but I think the British team is more informative (last year's ITV was ) on TSN . How good will the BBC team be ??
Brundle and Ted Kravitz will still be there , so I'm hoping it will continue to be good.

No HD this year. Just the same old widescreen upconverted SD feed.

TSN used the ITV feed last year as well as commentary, not sure how that works this year as BBC is commercial free.

Speed's coverage just gets better every year.

Both are available in the upconverted HD I mentioned.

The ITV coverage was great, except TSN sometimes cut off the coverage or started their broadcast late , or didn't even show the race ! :banghead:

Speed's coverage is getting better all the time,I just can't stand all the NASCRAP garbage at EVERY commercial break.
I used to love Speed for WRC,Aussie,BTCC etc., but the constant NASCRAP shit has driven (no pun meant) me away...

I rarely ever watch Speed anymore except for F1, MotoGP and the rest of the motorcycle racing. I used to watch it all the time but I guess I'm just not red neck enough NASCAR and the rest of their dumbass reality shows.

TSN needs to get the BBC rights for pre and post race. I'm sick of listening to Vic and Gerry Donaldson on his cell phone for pre and post race. Now that Peter Windsor is doing USF1 (still skeptical its going to happen), whose doing the Speed pre race pit lane walk or even the official post race conference?

Here's hoping 2010 brings HDTV to F1!

Apparently not until 2011

Hoping to watch the 2010 F1 season in high definition? Afraid you’re set for another disappointment.

BBC’s Lee McKenzie has said on Twitter that FOM will not be offering Formula 1 in HD to broadcasters until 2011.

Many other forms of motor racing have been broadcast in high def for years. This year will be the sixth season NASCAR has been broadcast in HD.

While F1 dawdles about catching up with HD technology, football is pressing ahead with the introduction of 3D broadcasts, starting with this year’s World Cup. Now this is just the words of a woman who'll be covering it, and it's ME posting, so you never know.

So much for being the most advanced auto racing in the world...

NASCAR has been in HD since 2004

You're watching a widescreen SD feed on an HD channel.

You'd need to download full races from torrent sites.

F1 had a PPV HD a long time ago... not sure on the year. But it got shutdown cause no one was buying it. I believe it was europe only

rage2

The PPV wasn't HD. It was widescreen digital, basically what we're getting today. You would be able to get all the raw in car feeds, as well as the main feed and a few others for something like 40 euro a race.

Some euro stations still offer in car feeds for the popular teams. 6 channels of F1 coverage every race.

This is probably the closest to confirmation for HD next year.

http://www.digitalfernsehen.de/Sky-zeigt-Formel-1-Rennen-2011-erstmals-in-nativem-HDTV.47125.0.html

Sky Germany confirms native HD feed from FOM. No word from BBC or Speed yet. At least we know FOM is providing a true HD feed!

English version, pretty much confirmed. Let's just hope Speed and TSN pays for the feed!

FOM confirms feeds to all broadcasters will be in HD. Tech details:

I am pleased to confirm that from the first event of the 2011 Championship and for every other event throughout the year, the International Feed will now be originated and offered in High Definition. This will apply for all sessions including Official Support events such as GP2, GP3 and the Porsche Supercup. The feed itself will be offered in 42 Mb/s MPEG2 throughout the world with a 22 Mb/s MPEG 4 option for the Americas.

Once again, for 2011, there will be 2 feeds both of which will be in High Definition. The content of each feed will be exactly the same, one feed will be the Wide International Feed (WIF); this will be a dirty 16:9 Broadcast with full 16:9 aspect ratio graphics with embedded audio. The second signal will be the Narrow International Feed (NIF); this will be a dirty 16:9 Broadcast with 4:3 safe area graphics also with embedded audio. The audio will consist of a Stereo Mix on Ch. 1 and a surround sound 5.1 Mix encoded as Dolby E Bitstream on Ch. 2.
5.1 audio, 1080i, here's hoping that TSN/Speed shows the 16:9 graphics feed on HD and downres'd 4:3 safe feed for SD (or even show it letterboxed).

Onboard cameras will be upscaled SD still, same quality as last year:

Martin Brundle moves into the lead commentator's role, with Coulthard joining him as analyst and co-commentator.

This would be the TSN feed
