0-60 in 6.8. 8.9L/100km. Invisible hand off between electric and gasoline motor. Wow!

Very cool

I do wonder though (and this could be a loaded question): is hybrid technology really the way the future of automobiles should be going? Considering the cost of manufacturing of the battery packs, maintence, etc (and especially in light of the advent of Clean Diesel)?

Sounds good on paper but I think the hydrogen Civics they're selling in Los Angeles are a better alternative. Fill it up at Shell stations, create your own power, emit water.

And you're not trying to haul around 10,000 laptop batteries.

 to Porsche, but I often wonder about the same thing. I don't think these vehicles are the solution. Like you mentioned, the use of batteries creates a whole list of other issues. How long do the batteries last? How much does it cost to replace? What about disposal? I can appreciate that new technology comes at a cost, but unless they figure out how to bring down the cost fairly quickly, the premium you pay to own/operate one of these vehicles makes it unattractive to most people.

IMO, a hybrid is still better than full-electric though. Imagine the strain on the power grid if everyone had one of those and plugs in their car after coming home from work. Also, how is the electricity generated? If it's coal, it's not really helping much.

Hydrogen is still 15-20 yrs away.

There's is no cheap hydrogen generation. Nobody want to invest in infrastructure unless it can be proven to make more $$$ than gas stations or better ROI.

I love the old school "carrera" type writing down the side.

That's the first Hybrid system that has excited me at all. And they didn't neuter the gas engine!

It's probably cheaper to develop and more adopted if they aim at North America.

Diesel is great but other than adding AdBlue, it will never meet NA emission.

Diesel is no saving anyway as NA diesel is usually more expensive than premium.
