I went today. Fairly good show.

Bentley/Lambo/Ferrari/Spyker/Maserati are all there with a good smattering of models.

new Camaro is unlocked
SVT Raptor is there
IS convertible is there
ISF is unlocked (Awesome seats)
C63 is there
X5/3 Series diesels are there
Evo + STI are unlocked
Nissan Cube is there ( :barf: )
370z is there
A5/S5 are there

My favorite car has to be the Corvette ZR1. Sure they brought a yellow one, but its awesome none the less.

What the hell is it with this new trend of having giant knobs sticking out ridiculously far from the dash?

From what I understand, they're not subsidize dealerships. So essentially Nissan dealerships in Calgary are exhibiting on their own dime.

Many of the cars there this year belong to local dealerships, the display material, detailing of the vehicles, put up and tear down as well as the marketing staff are still being provided by the manufacturers for the most part.

There is no 2010 GT500 there. They are just pre-production Mustang GT's.

Theres a GT500 KR from the last gen Mustang though.

Cars take soo much abuse at autoshows, so many clueless parents out there who just let their kids climb and walk all over seats, people try to steal trim pieces or interior components. If you ask one of the reps they will almost always unlock the car for you to see. The cars that are generally unlocked usually belong to the manufacturer and are preproduction meaning they have no VIN and will eventually be parted out or crushed, their only purpose in life is to be used as training material as well as autoshow and automotive review use. Most of the Lexus at the show belong to us so please be nice. I know the Porsches belong to south center, if you were looking at a Porsche would you want to buy one that had been put through the ringer for a week at the autoshow? :)

bwling
03-13-2009, 10:36 AM
I can see your point. When I was at the show I definitely saw a few parents lose control of their kids. Like you said, they were running and bumping into cars, pulling on things, jumping on seats, etc.

A very simple show this year IMO compare to the last few. The cost cutting from everyone is evident.

The A5 demo is disappointing, for some reason, Audi interior look unusually cheap under spot lights.

Mazda3 is very ugly in person with that stupid grin.

370z is alright, better looking in person.

Lexus convertible is alright. Hybrid sedan is ok, not very exciting and that puck for NAV control looks very out of place in a small car like that.

G37 convertible is going to start at low $60s I was told. Should undercut 335i cab by about $5-6K.

Camaro is a HUGE disappointment with the interior. I can't believe they fuck it up so bad.

Mercedes continues with Chinese-cheap interiors with the GLK. The gun-metal C63 is hot, but saw it's tag and WTF is a $2000 green levy tax and when did this started?

Honda Insight has a brutally cheap interior. Fit is actually a better buy and I was surprised by how airy is inside the Fit.

I'm over the VM Passat CC after I sat in one in person.

R8 is sexy but it's a shame they have to add bumper tabs in order to pass Canadian bumper regulation. Totally ruin the look of the car.

Which guy did you go to? When you enter the corral did you go to the guy to the right or to the left?

Because the guy on the Left is a complete jerk. Like we were standing there and the guy wouldnt give us a demonstration, and so we were like "ok we will be back." But the guy on the right is pretty chill. As we walked past his stand he did a demonstration for us. So we walk back to the guy on the left to see if he is willing to do a demonstration now, and he pretty much told us to fuck off and go buy our sham-wow from the other guy. So I bought my sham-wow from the guy on the right. And then as we walk out of the corral you can just see the Jerk Guys Stand so I wave at him with my sham-wow.

2 for $20 isnt too bad a deal.

I went for 3 reasons and 3 alone. Sure I checked out the other cars but what I really wanted to get up close with the 2010 Mustang and sit in the Dodge Challenger / Chevy Camaro. I was fairly disappointed with all 3. They aren't totally bad cars. But bad enough I'll stick with what I have for now.

The mustang was pretty much what I thought it would be. Weak exterior styling. Cheap ass black plastic surrounding the entire bottom of the car. The grabber blue paint job burns my eyes too. The only way this car is gonna look good is if you get it in a really dark color. That way some of that black plastic blends. Either that or you get it painted after you buy the car which is a pain in the ass.. The interior is pretty nice though compared to its competition. Wish it was unlocked so I could really compare it to my own.

I sat in the Challenger for a few minutes. That will be the last time I ever get in one. That thing is a land yacht. I don't think I could ever drive it. It felt like I was inside a lowered long box pickup truck with no visibility. Nice seats for sure but the rest of the interior is meh.

The camaro's interior was bad. Really bad. On all levels. All the pictures online make it seem quite nice. But in person - brutal. I got inside of it, and all I wanted to do was GTFO of it. Some other dude jumped in and his head hit the roof and he said he was only 6'1". I can't believe in a car this big there's no headroom. I'm sure the seat can be adjusted for a few extra inches. But still. The exterior styling was the best of the 3 though. So gorgeous. Even with a shit interior I'm sure they'll sell tons on the exterior styling alone.

Auto show was incredibly boring this year. Last year, Mini had this great setup with 3 Minis elevated on some scaffolding and 3 below. This year? 4 on the ground. The salespeople didn't seem interested in anything any more. Altogether, a little disappointing. Welcome to the current economy, hey?

Went with the old man, need to convince him to replace his old van haha.

Anyways, pretty disappointed this year with Mercedes actually, didn't bring out anything that I wanted to see, no CL or CLS, no S-class, CLK, SL, but 3 or 4 Smart cars :nut: I wanted to see their higher end cars but they didn't bring a single one other than that SLK.

Other than that, lotta nice cars out there. Infiniti definitely has some of the nicest interiors right now.

Anybody catch the price tag on the M6 at the BMW booth? $130k for it?! Might as well buy the R8 or a Maserati GranTurismo for that price.

Yea it was incredibly boring, not like last year was all that much better. The whole show lacks anything special. All the cool cars are fenced off and nothing much to do other than look at family cars for $14 when you could just go to the dealership.

Out of all the big car companies, I realized Toyota was the only one without any car that appealed to me. All this family crap, where's the 2 door sport coup? Have they just given up on those?

I did like the 370 though, better looking in person. Of course it looked weak sitting next to the GTR but still nice.

I think the real point of this show is for someone looking at a specific group of cars, say a compact car or a mini van or an SUV can go and look at all the cars in that segment without having to drive all over the city, going dealer to dealer.

I have family in the Toronto Area, and the pictures my cousin sent me of the CIAS, that show is 100000% better then anything Calgary will ever have.

Anyway, learned a bit about deisel 3 series Bimmers... 250hp on 450lb/ft o_O

And there's this cool new thing a lot of manufacturers are putting into their cars now, where there is no physical "key" that you insert into the car to turn it on. Instead, there's a "start engine" button that u press. Key Keychain you are given has a proximity censor that knows when it is within the car, which then allows you to start the car with the button! I dunno if this is new tech but I've never seen it before (havent bought a new car in a while), but seems like a really good safety feature for sure. I'm not sure I'd like it though since I like the satisfaction of turning a key and cranking the motor to start... plus wtf do u do when your button or proxy censor breaks lol. then you have to tow that shit

Nice to see the new cars and whatnot but I think the tiny HKS booth takes the show with the 787rwhp Supra :hitit:

Spent about 3 hours there so I suppose it was worth the 14 bones.

Almost every manufacturer had a version of the keyless ignition now.

I think they first appeared in the 40s or 50s, went away for a while and came back recently. Same with the swivel lights. I think Citroen DS was the first one to have them in the 60s.

Also Canadian bumper regs are whack.

Look at the difference in the bumpers on the EVO :barf:
Sorry for the giant picture

You might get it out once, lol. But that would about it before she gets impounded. Over all there were a few nice cars there but nothing that really stood out to me with the exception of all the exotics. On that topic, I was kinda surpised that the Ferarri Scaglietti(?) sold for $500k on Wednesday, who said were in a recession???

I think it was earlier than that. Tucker's had them in the late 40s.

Don't get me wrong, the C63 is fucking amazing. Too bad it was locked. But that is still their cheapest AMG vehicle out there. I wanted to see some of their higher end cars, Audi had their A8 out, BMW had the M6, new 7 series, Porsche had... well... all their 911's, Jag had their XF, XJ, XKR and not to mention all the high end exotics in the Corral. Mercedes didn't have anything really that competed with any of those cars. Didn't even have the S class out to compare between the A8, 7 series and XJ. Pretty disappointing imo. I mainly wanted my dad to see them since he's looking at a high end luxury sedan for his retirement and the S class and CLS are definitely on the list.

Keyless entry & ignition pissed me off at the auto show. Went over to the Lincoln stand to sit in the... Lincoln Taurus? Anyway, pulled a couple times on the handle and the door wouldn't open (the back doors were open though, so it wasn't that sort of issue). The snooty salesperson comes over and blurts out "it's a keyless entry – use the inside handle to open it". :banghead:

Well theres a key in the button itself, and Im pretty sure Nissan Canada or whatever they can do it for you. Buddys key got effed as well and Nissan unlocked it for him over the phone. And I heard to on the Corvette if you step out of the car with your key on you it automatically shuts off as well.

The shamwow guy pointed his wet shamois at me and asked

"Do you want to squeeze"

I said,

"no, not from you"

and some random guy spit his coffee out laughing.

My friend, be careful.

The sham wow maybe works good on most, but don't touch black cars' paint.

I felt disappointed by this year's Car show.

While last years I was running around taking pictures left and right, this year I managed to only take 3.

Did anyone fill out for the draw they were having at the show for dream vacation and whatnot? I got a call claiming I won today but I didn't really believe it. Just wondering if anyone else got calls as well.

Not using it to wash cars. Like I said, if it cleans up one spill, then I think I got my moneys worth.
