This is dedicated to those who work on the road. Forget about greasy fast food, forget about the wifey's/gf hearty home cooked macaroni-n-cheese.

There's not much excitement sitting in a lonely cold motel room, but the suspense in trying catch some live fresh crabs.

Went to the local Sobey's, the kid who worked there was patience until I picked a crab I liked.

Comes in a nice decorative gift box as well.

Prep and de-clawed her.

Add some Campbell's chicken broth, lemon and tea biscuit and you're on your way moving to the coast.

Tasted really tender, nice bouncy meat to it, a little too fishy/seafood-ish but understandable for something coming from seamen.

And the thing is it cost less than eating at the steak house, so.

Crab - $23.56
Lemon - $0.50 (on sale)
Tea biscuit - $0.75 (box of 6 @ $4.49)

No restuarant gradutity, no uppercuts.

How do I explain this to the accountant???

Did you just boil it in the chicken broth? If so, whatd you do with the leftover chicken broth/crab juices after done? You can make a nice soup

I just dumped the chicken "soap", cuz it got to seafood smelly. I suppose you could add some instant noodles or something.

Edit: Thanks for the reminder DJ..... Campbell's chicken broth - $2.99

This might not had been the best idea actually :thumbsdow

Just got back from the casino, my breath stank pretty bad from the crab that people were wondering if I'd been chowing down on some Thailand transvestite hooker. :(

Holy fuck thats one expensive crab, or was that the price of 3?

I think it tastes better just boiled (whole, not cut up and killed before) in salt water.

Well that's a different way of cooking a crab. Never seen it done before in my life because usually we just boil the whole thing, no prep, alive with salt water and *yum yum* so good!

Might try it out but it seems a bit TOO salty with the broth and all. Plus, kills the taste of crab IMO.

As for the price, if it was $5/lb., it doesn't seem to be a ~4 pounder.

that is one expensive crab, judging by those pics i think its <2 lbs, so ~ $12 if you buy it at your local chinese stores. i think they are $7.99/lb at superstore?

2 potatoes + 1 crab + 1 pack of Singapore curry = God-like

Yea never again, what a horrible idea... Think it was 10.99/lb

Yes dj I just boiled it in chicken soap :poosie: just trying things out...

Went to the local sushi bar today for A.Y.C.E. Lunner, $22.95+tea+10% = $27.55 + 6.00 tip (on top of 10% cuz she's cute) For the extra buck or two, I should had done this instead last night.

I like my dungeoness crabs flipped on their back, line the plate with some ginger and green onions, then steamed whole. Then get some red vinegar for dipping. Yum!

Tom, the lessen the seafood smell, try tossing some cut up ginger and/or onions in the broth. That should cut it down somewhat.

And while you were enjoying that thing, I chowed down on this guy on Saturday night!

All cooked and ready for cutting up and into my tummy!

After having fresh king crab, I don't think I could ever go back to eating the frozen kind. And don't even ask how much it cost hahaha. We seem to get 1 or 2 shipments per year here in Calgary (fresh). So I guess you can call it an annual treat.

Where can you get fresh King Crab? The ones at Superstore are usually already dead and just sitting on ice. T&T, from what I remember, never had live King Crab, just the Dungeness crab.

IMO, blue crab is the bomb. So small but oh so sweet.

Superstore by Hamptons actually. The ones you see on ice are the pre-cooked and previously frozen stuff. They had 3 in the fish tank. Seriously... nothing beats live king crab. Not even lobster....

i've seen live king crab at T&T sometimes. Just ask them when them when they'll get some in. I saw a couple king crabs in T&T yesterday and next to them were some giant lobsters that were the same size as the king crab....they were disgustingly huge. And yeah, I buy crab for 4.99-5.99/lb regular price.

+1, i'd even rather eat tons of king crab legs/claws than one lobster tail, like in vegas, the planet hollywood buffet there they had king crab legs and i said fk everything else, sat and probably had 3 full plates of it along with tons of scrimps:drool:

my friends ate everything else and i was the only one who wasn't running into every 3rd casino on the strip because of the shits
