the merkur xr4ti is a "german" ford . it was built and shipped over here on a boat from germany in 1986 . it uses a 2.3 litre turbo charged ford engine . the 2.3 is known as the "indestructable" engine .

the engine i swapped into the car is from the SVO Mustang, which is also the same 2.3 . apparently the SVO 2.3 has a few differences for power . i beleive the top end feels the same at stock boost, but it is a lot smoother and peppier (better head airflow?)

here are some "older" pics of the interior . there is now a stereo, the center vents are restored and there is a digital gauge for fuel and coolant temp ...

also, u'll notice the carpet looks a little grey'd in spots on this pic . it's old and the carpet had been replaced with a new black one in 2006.

Merkur is german for 'mercury'.
It was Ford's first attempt at bringing european cars over to North America. They brought the XR4ti, which is the Ford Sierra over there, and the Merkur Scorpio, a 4dr car.

Hey OP - interested in daily/commuter trades?

My little Merkur's come a long way. I brought this back from Vancouver back in '96. Fun daily driver. Bump!

I have had a few of these. Great cars with great seats. Tons of room inside and reasonable mpg as well. Lincoln-Mercury dealerships never knew what to do with the cars when they came here. Known as the Ford Sierra in Europe and the Cosworth versions are amazing. Good luck with your sale.

thanx everyone for the interest . i'll get back to all of those who had emailed/pm'd me tommorow (monday) . i've been in ontario all week and get back late tonight .

i'm really looking forward to choosing a good home for this xr4ti . i've gone through a lot of joy and pain getting it into a stable and reliable state . it would break my heart to see it end up at a wreckers due to it's age . the car is collectable insurable due to it's age and production count . it deserves to be taken care of by someone who has the time .

to answer a few of your questions..

1) Yes the car is RWD

2) I'm not looking for trades, sorry. We already have 3 other cars in our home between myself and my gf

3) I don't have any power or 1/4 mile numbers. The car hasn't seen a track or ever "raced" since i've owned it . Those who know me know that i baby my stuff
