Sorry for the rant but i just need to get this off my chest.

For the past 3 months my brother has been throwing up daily its gotten so bad that he cant even work he will wake up and until he goes to sleep his stomach is uneasy. We went to the hospital where they did some tests and they couldnt figure out what was wrong other than he would have very high white blood cell count one hour and the next it would be normal. At the first visits they told us they needed to do more test they even told us what tests had to be done but they cant be done without a letter from a specialest. The specialest wont call us back it has been 2 months. We've been told that even if we do get a call back it could be 6-8 months before we get in and a year till we know what is wrong. We dont have many options left other than waiting i just needed to vent somewhere.

I know how you feel. A family memeber has been sick for 8 months without a diagnosis. He had an internal bleed that turned into other problems...
I found that you can't just let them tell you they'll call you back etc etc. Communication with front desk staff is not great, so you have to keep on top of them. Call, or go down there in person.

Also see if a family doctor can refer you to Internal Medicine Clinic at Foothills. We have had much better luck there as those doctors are more thorough and the nurse we dealt with has excellent communication skills where she actually calls back when she says she will.

You must hound them. From personal experience I had to go in for an mri I to need a specialist. I spent 2 month calling consistently, until I finally got through.

I wish you luck. I can empathize.

Go to another country to get health care

Lol at the above, too late now. It has been recorded and can be traced to them, and then they'll be in jail , too for fraud haha

That makes me so mad to hear! It's sickening to hear that your bro is in this state with no help in the near future. You have to either bug them non stop or try and switch doctors because there has to be something seriously wrong for him to be doing this. Good Luck

My brother in law had the exact same symptoms, even the high white blood cell count. It just took rest + time. Hope the same for your brother

Welcome to the Alberta Health care system. What a joke it is.

Have you tired any of the private clinics in town? Maybe you can get access to a specialist sooner.

Hate to say it - but don't bother with calgary hospitals...

Head out to emerg at the mineral springs in banff; at least there you're a patient not a body taking up their precious resources... Go before noon though, after that - you'll be sitting hours waiting on them to cast up hundreds of broken skiiers...

Go in tell them what's up - say you're feeling really dehydrated today.

BTW - bring entertainment - damn place has no internet...

I would like to thank Foothills hospital staff right now after 13 visits to peter laugheed with no result we went to foothills and even though we waited a while to get in to see somebody they did some tests and came to a conclusion that it might be a tumor on his para thyroid gland. They will do some more tests and if thats the case will operate. So after 3 months and no answers what so ever all it took was 1 trip 16 hours to atleast have something. We all have 4 glands and if the tumor is on just one he wont have to change at all the doc said that our bodys can make due with just a half of one gland so we should be ok.

If he was in need of specialist, they would just refer him to Calgary anyway. So he would be right back where he started.

calgarys_finest - I'm glad to hear that you finally have an answer now.

Now THIS is the stuff that REALLY pisses me off! Those Jackasses at the PLC should be reprimanded in some manner. I wanted to say they should be sued but I don't want to sound like an american.

Glad to hear it's finally getting sorted out.

Yeah, my dad is a doctor and yet I had to wait 1 month for a heart MRI. I dont mean to say I am anymore important then anyone else, but I NEVER have to wait in emerg. And yet it took that long to get that done.

Best of luck man, I very seriously hope it is not a tumor.

thats brutal, sounds similar to what a relative went through (that throwing up and high white blood cell count), she tested positive for cancer.. keep hounding as much as you can, that's really awful. Don't they have several private clinics in Calgary you can go too if you can afford it?
