I had the opportunity to see a stock D16Z6 shortblock today for the first time. The cylinders are absolutely miniscule. It was ridiculous. I don't intend this to be a flame to Honda motors at all. I have only worked on the Big bored 944s and V8s, so seeing such a small cylinder was pretty shocking. It really puts things in perspective to see one extreme and then another. It gave me a huge respect for VTEC and the design of the motor to be able to make decent power with what seems like such a shortcoming.

Go Honda

To better explain...On paper, the difference between a 75mm(D16) bore and a 104mm(89 Porsche 944) bore doesnt seem like alot, but in reality, the 104mm bore has nearly TWICE the area of the 75mm bore. That becomes very evident when you actually see them both.

Pi x R^2=Area

Remember that though the diameter only increases by roughly 27%, the circumference increases also, creating more volume in the cylinder. :)

But if you threw both up in the air, would they come down at the same speed?
