I have a buddy who's a contractor for this company, but he's thinking of quitting but after he reread his contract over again, it states he has to give a 90 day notice. That's 3 months. Is that common? I thought 2 weeks to a month would be more suitable...but 3 months?

I'm no expert in law so I couldn't tell him what to do. How would he be able to terminate his contract and not wait out those 90 days. And would the company be able to go after him if he didn't give 90 days (maybe less)?

:dunno:

your thinking like he is an employee, he is a company dealing with another company.

yes 90 days is common for contract work.

He can always talk about it with the company he has a contract with to see if he can terminate early. I'm sure they will let him go if a compensation is agree upon.

I don't know what he does but unless his skills are VERY desirable or critical to completion of the project, I'm sure the company can find replacement willing to work for 10-20% less right now.
