I bought this 1995 Honda Civic Si for $270 (not a typo). Cleaned it up, put a remote starter/alarm/door lock actuators and power trunk popper. Threw some ripped up leather seats in it, Armour All’d everything, fiberglassed up the rust patches and 4 weekends later the car looks like this:

The speedometer stopped working properly at 265000kms. Nothing leaks at all and surprisingly everything else works. Plans for the car are to put heated seats in, do the mirror with outside temperature gauge (I probably miss this the most from my Impreza) and throw a turbo kit into it hence justifying the title.

We found a theft recovery civic for $525 with a turbo in it already and an engine compatible with all of my stuff. The pictures of the turbo civic:

Fitting description for someone trying to boost a 300000km+ car
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture154.jpg

A small video of us trying to get it running. The starter finally gave out after about an hour of on/off cranking. The positive terminal is on the right.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/th_Picture160.jpg (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/?action=view&current=Picture160.flv)

The next day we got it running with a whole lot of smoke coming out of the back. The video is too large to load to photobucket but if someone can host a 152mb video then I can post the video of it running.

The turbo kit install was the WORST thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If a shop did this they should be ashamed of themselves. Wires were bare and hanging close to the down pipe, we found cut and open wires just everywhere and the positive terminal was about 1 mm away from the intercooler piping. Just a mess.

The turbo is a TD05H. I bought a bigger FMIC for $100 and the SAFC II already came with the car. Injectors are also on the engine so the only thing left to get would be some sort of Honda ECU program.

If anyone has the ECU pinouts for the North American 95 civic then please post them or send me a link. With a quick search the only thing I found was the JDM pinouts; the reason for this is I want to wire in the SAFC.

To summarize things up I’m going to be into the entire car for a total of about $1550. This is already including the $430 write-off inspection and the $525 turbo kit. I sold the write-off theft recovery civic for $200.

By now everyone and their moms have a turbo civic so it will be nothing special but this proves that you can have a somewhat fun car for very little money.

I just searched a bit and yes, it is for a P28 (1995 Civic Si). Aside from bolting everything on and wiring in the SAFC II the only other thing I think I need is the ECU program; I don't care for a tune unless it is cheaper than an ECU program.

Finally got around to working on the civic again this weekend. So far no complaints about the car. It only loses about 500ml of oil every 5 months and doesn't leak anything.

I bought some eBay (very cheap) lights to give the car a different look. The headlights and corner lights were $54, the taillights were $38 and the fog lights were $18. Can't go wrong with prices like those. The marker fender lights I stole from my brother's crashed 2004 Acura TL A-Spec.

Here is the bumper off and the lights already on (fitment is horrible). Next I started with the fog lights.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture247.jpg

You have to hack apart some of the bumper grills. It's not too bad you just have to take you time with the Dremel.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture251.jpg

After much time passes you can finally bolt on the light. Fitment was surprisingly good. The wiring quality was terrible and the "OEM" switch is already broken lol.

That's all I did for the intercooler so far. Will work more on it soon.

I also put in the side marker lights. I'm not happy to say this but, I completely destroyed both fenders in the process. They're bowed in and there are small dents all around the lights. It really doesn't look good up close.

Plenty of room to work with though

Lol, I hardly think 100ml a month is going to do anything to the engine. The whole reason I want to boost the SOHC engine is that engines are worth nothing. I already have a spare one from the hatch and there's another one out of a 1999 Civic sedan for $90 (ninety dollars). Having said that I'm expecting it to blow by the end of August just in time for the beginning of University.

EFHatch, the lip looks great and took about 5 minutes to install. Very hard to notice on a black car though.

Nissan_Fanboy, I know the factory location is lower. I got those side markers from a TL and the backing of them was much bigger. I measured up the factory location and there wouldn't be enough room to put them where you pictured. So up top they went.

Twin_Cam_turbo, this car was in rough shape to begin with so no need to spent a lot of money on quality parts. It really shows up close as nothing really quite lines up. It's going to be the winter beater though; so I couldn't care less. There are much more fun cars to drive in the summer time.

Did some more work over these past two weekends. Fitted more of the turbo kit on along with preventative maintenance items like the timing belt, tensioner and water pump.

Here is what the timing belt looked like. It is an original Honda part. I would have never changed the belt if my water pump didn’t start leaking. In these pictures I did not “break” the seam; this is what the belt was like and it was like this over every nub. Also note that the belt appeared to be good from the outside so if someone just looks at their belt and deems it okay think again.

While I was doing an oil change a little while ago I noticed my tie rod boot was ripped. That started a whole chain of events that led me to replacing almost everything up front. My brother had a 99 civic parts car that had 77000kms on it. So I towed that car over to the shop and robbed anything and everything I could from it including hubs, rotors, brakes, tie rods and axles. And while I had everything apart I installed the Tien coils my brother had from a crashed Integra. I used the GSR struts in the back and SIR struts in the front. The car sits a little bit too low for my liking at the moment. I’ll see how it is actually driving it.

Pulling the stuff off the 99 civic (someone actually stole the two front doors of the thing lol).

It’s hard to see the intercooler through the front bumper which was the effect I was going for

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture306.jpg

After all of that we started fitting the turbo kit. I have to give the guys who built this kit some credit. The wiring was kind of shotty as I mentioned above but the welder knew what he was doing. The quality of the crafting was amazing.

Bought all of the essential stuff needed.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture321.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture313.jpg

I started by raiding the other engine of its parts. Oil pan, fuel pressure regulator, etc. While I was doing that I found out why we couldn’t get that engine to run properly. One of the injector wires was completely loose.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture325.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture324.jpg

Unfortunately the fuel pressure regulator had a slightly different bolt pattern than my car. I’ll save that for a different day.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture336.jpg

Then we started on the oil pan. Got mine off and cleaned nicely ready for storage. We were hoping to use the other one but the oil pickup on the engine was different. We didn’t notice until AFTER we cleaned it, painted it, put the gasket on. What a piss off.

So we mimicked what they did and we did the same to my pan. Bought a steel pipe and welded the oil return into it. The picture you see here is my original pan.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f238/99rs/1995%20Civic/Picture365.jpg

The oil you see dripping was only for us to get the rubber hose on easier

I stopped taking pictures during the fitment of the piping but all of the pipes you see are used pipes that we painted black. The mounting points we used were where the original airbox sat. The following pictures are as the car sits today. The one side of the piping is completely done including the welding off the blow-off valve into position.

^^Thanks for the comments. Although looking through some of the other people's "daily driver" builds on here puts mine to shame.

Note: the rest of these pictures were taken about 3 days after the above posts. Put 2 months worth of driving on the car and it’s about what you would expect. Nothing spectacular but very fun.

Couldn’t find anybody to do a tune so got a Fuel Management Unit (FMU) instead. It runs pretty good AFR up to about 7 psi. I wouldn’t recommend it for anything over that. For my car it runs 13 at high idle, about 12.5 at full boost, 14.5 at idle and never goes over 15 unless I let off. Good enough for me.

Also because this is a winter car I got some undercoating on special at Princess Auto. Splashed it around everywhere on all four corners of the car.

The stock radiator just didn’t cut it anymore in heavy traffic. Bought one on Ebay for $40 with the radiator cap included. After duties and shipping it came out to $84 CAD; not bad for a 2” radiator. I can’t believe how cheap things are for this car.

Upgraded to mist spray nozzles from a 1.6 EL. Much better than the straight stream ones from the early 90’s.

That’s about where it ends. The radiator cap that came with the radiator is already crapping out as my over flow tank is bubbling when the car is running but it never overflows. If I pinch the line from the radiator cap to the overflow the bubbling stops and things go back to normal. Everything else seems to be in good working order.

Finally got rid of the recirculation fitting on the blow-off valve today. Now it sounds extra ricey. On a side note almost a year and still not too many issues with it. I figured the engine would be finished by now for sure.

Really awesome stuff!, love to see turbo civics around town.

Not much more to update on it. There isn't too much more to do to it without having to upgrade other components. As for the drive-ability it just makes the car more fun. It's not the fastest thing out there but I enjoy driving it. I put about a 1000 kilometers per week on the car and it's still not getting old.

Sentry, the fin sound pretty good with the 8 psi I'm running; usually shift around 4-5 psi. I agree with you though, it would be very high pitched if it was boosting 20 psi or some other high pressure.
