Odds are im gonna buy a 1980 420SEL within a week or so, and i was just wondering if there were any older mercedes fourms on the net. I have tried many searches but seem to keep coming up short

It has the largest motor ever put into car by MBZ :D 250hp/360lbft torque :drool: 0-60 in 7.2 sec

Have you seen the movie Ronin?? There is a chase scene in there when they use a 6.9 and smoke the tires and shit in it :D :burnout:

For $500 I don't see how you could go wrong....but I am assuming that the car is in pretty bad shape (correct me if I am wrong..)

Im buying it off a buddy, so i know the car inside and out. Has a patch of rust on the front fender, maybe hockey puck size, and another patch of rust the same size one the rear quarter.

Mechanically it is strong with nothing wrong. Interior is mint with no cuts or anything in the leather. Even has 4 heated seats.

A power polish, and some fluid changes, and she will be ready to go

can't even get 4 heated seats on some newer luxo cars.....and you're getting them in a car thats 23 years old :D

are you 100% sure its a 6.9 though....I am kind of thinking its just a regular 450sel for that price

6.9's usually go for upwards of 5gz USD

I doubt it is a 6.9 it is probably just a regular 450SEL, but if it is a 6.9 then that is a hell of a deal:D

:) We used to have one of those (I think it was the 500 model though) but we sold it in '92 because it wasn't worth the cost to repair it. That will be an expensive car to maintain. :nut:

Is it a diesel? I love the way those older benz's sound.

meh, it just needs to get me through winter, then i can get a new bike. and it becomes a project car.

so for 500 bucks. if it breaks down oh well.

nah a 450SEL is a gas powered car

and yes...I also love the way old 5cyl MBZ Turbo Diesels sound :D :D

nothin better than waking up the neighbors when I needed to start that thing up (especially on cold mornings..) :D :D
