So I am leaving next Saturday to get the new ride. I have done this before 4 years ago but I am drawing a blank. In order for me to drive the car back, I legally have to.......

Have temp white copy of insurance
Registered plate in my name for my existing vehicle
All bill of sale documents etc....
Then I have 14 days to complete out of province, and registration

Is that all? I remember I had to go to an ICBC location for something but cant remember now....

Thanks

can't you get a temp license 'paper' plate # (i think its temporary operating permit), valid for a week or whatever, i've seen them on US imports when i worked at a stealership.

Make sure to take the relevant section of the traffic safety act which states you can legally drive it for 14 days, and make sure your old car is off the road / sold already.

I bet you could get some variety of in-transit permit while in BC but I know nothing about the process and it sounds like a bit PITA.

when I bought a car in vancouver all I needed was a insurance permit and the In-transit permit from alberta. the in-transit permit costs like 15$. I got that because I didn't have a plate.

it was annoying cause the permit sticks to you front windshield so in the back I had no plate or anything.. so a couple cops pulled me over for that. just make sure you have the bill of sale, insureance and intransit permit ready to show them..

I picked up 91 Galant VR-4 2 years ago from Vancouver. Just like you flew there and drove back. You will need the following:

(1) Bill of sale

(2) In transit certificate issued by the BC govt (I got mine from a London Drugs store in Vancouver). You can request from a day to more and will be charged accordingly. Sorry forget the rates.

(3) Temporary AB insurance until you get the OOP inspection done. So you will need to get a hold of the VIN# from the seller before you leave.

Hope that helped and good luck with the purchase.

all you need to get is a temp insurance thro ICBC.. its dirt cheap.. i think i paid 40 bucks for a few days.. its just a simple pce of paper and they give it a plate number and a date of expirery.. no inpection needed to get it.. its the cheapest and easyest way to get a car from A-B

this is interesting, do you have to be a BC citizen ?
will they give you temp insurance without an out of province?

thats how i got mine yep...

i had a AB drivers licence and a AB car also.. and they gave me 3 days of coverage.. they then give you a 8x11 pce of paper for the rear window with a plate number and exp date and then a small 3x11 paper for the front window with just the plate number..

so thats how i did it should work for anyone else too
