So they are using age old aircraft aerodynamics and applying them to a vehicle.

So, the trunk has to be re-inforced I would assume. As this is helping you turn through corners, a hinged trunk couldn't withstand the forces. Therefore you are loosing your trunk.

Cool for the serious racers? I guess...

^ yeah, all they need is a pitch trim tab on each section for even more finely tuned downforce, then they could even probably take off lol, like you said for serious racers.. but is it considered cheating in an organized event?
