Bought this car for $1500... needs paint, subframe work, oilpan gasket, and some serious loving to the interior... stick around for my build thread!.

EDIT: Here's some eye candy =) I decided to go with Maranellos cause Vitek told me if I didn't weld the mounts bang on that I would get crazy vibrations at higher speeds. This shop is pretty legit!

$1500? From that picture the car looks to be in pretty good shape! Man you got a steal! Throw in an E46 M3 motor and call it a day.

^^ This is true. Needs body work before paint. Whats wrong with the interior? Are you going to swap the motor?

I'm thinking now after looking at the pics that those jackstands with a flat, circular top would've been a better choice...

Nice bud, what are you goals with this car?

zipdoa
04-01-2009, 02:25 PM
Goals:

#1 - HAVE FUN! But in reality, I got this car so I would have something to do when my friends are at the bar getting wasted. I would say my first goal is to LEARN.

#2 - Make it track worthy - since i'm doing so much work on the back end, I will be adding reinforced mounts where neccesarry and using many M3 parts. This will be the car that I learn to race in, but it also must function as a daily driver.

#3 - When all the mechanical issues have been taken care of, I will be prepping the car myself for paint/bodykit refitment. Will also be doing the window trim as it looks like shit right now.

#4 - Interior - I'm not too sure what to do with the interior... the back seats/trunk interior might have to come out for the welding work, so if I have to take it out, I might as well fix it up before I put it back in. The headliner and trim around the sunroof looks like crap (I think the sunroof seal sucks and water has creeped in), so i want to put new fabric in the roof and fix the trim in the rear windows.

#5 - ??? who knows, after getting the car back into tip top shape, time and money will decide what I do with it. I've seen a 2JZ-GTE swap which seems like a lot of fun, but for now I just want to get the car ready to perform on the street and the track.

Yes, interior still looks this good, the fabric is starting to peel around the sunroof a bit, but thats it.

bump - goes to maranellos on may 11th to get the subframe welded in correctly, apparently if it's not exact you can get a lot of shake at high speeds, and since this will be a track car I'm going to be safe and get them to do it.

Quoted @ $2000 - $3000 ... I asked him if it would be any more, garunteed, and he said no, so I think when I bring the BMW in I will have him write out a written quote and the like.

Oil pan gasket will be done by Vitek at whatever shop he works at... I used to work with him @ bmw gallery and he's good shit. Unfortunately replacing the gasket requires lifting the engine so a good 5-6hrs labour. Was going to do it myself, but alas I have no hoist.

I'm leaning now towards doing a vinyl wrap for sure on the car, it's got a few rust bubbles on the passenger side, so i was thinking i would sand out the rust and replace the rusted trim, then vinyl wrap the car black.

Great stuff man! Can you expand a little on the vinyl wrap? Is it kind of 3Ming the entire car? Are you going to do it yourself?

You should shove an LS1 into that car, when you get the subframe repaired have them weld in the factory BMW M3 reinforcement plates, also perfect time to upgrade the subframe bushings to urethane while its out for the repair.

Off to calgary autowerks for clutch slave cyl, clearing check engine light, misc electrical issues and some fresh fluids... and then shes off the maranellos on the 11th!

Just want to put a shout out to Sam @ Calgary Autowerks, took my car in today w/no appt, super honest shop, quoted me on everything and very willing to explain all repairs and options!

Talk to TurboD about it, i'm still educating myself. Basically the same principal as vinyl 'graphics' but just covering an entire car with one solid color. You use a heat gun and squeegee to put it on and a blade to trim corners and stuff.

Gerry called today to let me know he ordered this M3 reinforcement kit from the states... i told him in the beginning that we would need it but he said he would fab everything?? lol anyway he seems legit so I'm sure I'll be happy with the car. I explicitly told him that I would be bagging it really hard at the track and that he should use his disrection to make sure that it won't break under repeated abuse.

This should ensure a turbo m50 doesn't cause more havoc in the rear end.

on another note, does anyone have a vader m3 interior for sale?

EDIT:

Talked to Gerry again today, asked him to replace all the bushings he comes across with poly ones... also needed a wheel bearing. Should have the car next week.

I havent had the M3 since last year. OP vader seats are amazing, i loved the look of them and was actually disapointed seeing the seats on the E46 M3 when they first came out. They are very hard to find in good condition, the ones you posted are worn out and i wouldn't bother with them. I tried hard to find them for my (Well now yours e36) without much luck.. My buddy actually totalled his m3 and was going to give me the seats for free but i didnt have the car at the time, he ended up selling them for $600 local and the car had about 21,000 miles.

Bad timing i guess
