Looking to pick up a hardtail this week and I'm looking for some opinions or reviews on bikes in the thousand dollar range.

These are the first two that I found interesting, but let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks

What is the end purpose of the bike? Without knowing this it is a little hard to offer advice. Oh and have a look at Norco as well usually you pay less for better components due to their name/brand being less chic.

A Giant Trance 3 or a Giant XTC 1 are going to be your best values from any brand I am aware of. You get full suspension in the Trance 3 too, but it is a couple hundred over your budget. If you just spend a tiny bit more than $1000 you can get a significantly better bike.

:banghead: :banghead: Crap sometimes I'm a moron.

I meant to put in the original post that it will be mainly for bike paths and light trail riding. No extreme trails or jumping. It's more for exercise than an adrenalin rush. I have my YFZ for when I need some real off road excitement.

msommers: thanks for the link, I will have to check out Pedalhead as I'm located in the south.

Thanks.

Definitely then go with a hardtail. You should be fine with air dampened forks as well unless you plan on doing some pretty serious trails. Either of those bikes would be fine really but as mentioned previously shop around because brand names tend to increase the price of the bikes.

As another option... Look at kona, specialized as well...
