My AVG decided to start being fucking retarded and say the update requests computer restart every god damn day, even though I have like 20 times.

What software do you guys recommend that's free?

Avira9 is the best free version and AVG is shit.

Have fun.

Edit I forgot to mention that comodo is good too, but it is not very user friendly.

i have used AVG and a trojan fucked my computer.. installed Kaspersky on another machine and put my old hard drive in as a secondary. Kaspersky found the Trojan and i havent had any other problems..

i will never use AVG again, as i dont think it detects everything

Totally, I clean computers on the side and AVG seems ok with viruses but is absolute crap when it comes to stopping rogues and trojans.

Possibly link me to Avira download link?
I found the site but none of them were free.
And when I did manage to find it on download.com, it was downloading at 25 kb/s.

Right now for protection I am using both avira and drive sentry.

I use comodo for cleaning pc's if there is no root kit installed. If there is I then use what I call the triple threat ... gmer, malwarebytes antimalware, and superantispyware.

Lol, you guys are all knocking AVG based on a couple of bad experiences, and then then the guy asks for a FREE one, you're suggesting paid options...

Avira, drive sentry, avast, comodo are all free and they all work better than avg.

I've used AVG in the past and now use AVAST, as does pretty much everyone I've helped set up their computer. Not a single problem to date, works perfectly. People ignoring the prompt to renew the free license every now and then is one reason some people think these programs suck, because then they stop getting updates, but its their fault.

Ya download.com is more popular and the Avira9 release is kind of new. Add that to the conficker panic and I am willing to bet there are at least a few hundred people trying to use the download.com link at any one time.
