TRAFFIC SAFETY ACT
Changes: Vehicle Equipment Regulation
The Traffic Safety Act included changes to vehicle equipment rules that your service shop should be aware of:
Daytime running lights, anti-lock braking system and the center high mounted brake lights must be maintained in proper working order. Shops are no longer allowed to disable these systems and must inform the consumer of their legal responsibility to maintain them.
All lights on vehicles must comply with the Transport Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standard for lights on a vehicle. It is an offence to drive a vehicle equipped with lights not authorized by the legislation. If you install lights that are required by Transport Canada (headlights, marker lights, brake lights, back-up lights, turn signals, etc.) those lights must be SAE standard and colour!
