hey all, i have been trying to figure this out and it's driving me crazy, this pic is what my wiring is like (i assume, i cant see through the walls to verify :P)

The timer is a Leviton 6230m

Any help? i have tried wiring it up in various ways, i can get it so the switch powers up, but it doesn't power the light. Also i can get it do the switch powers up, but when i hit one of the times, the light just flickers on and off constantly...

Is this going to work for me?

Right now botht eh fan and light come on at the same time, with one switch, which i am OK with.

Here's some pics

Wiring diagram, it's blurry so i'm not sure if you can see it.

I have foudn that the only wait to make the timer turn on at all, is to have the white wire on one of the wires in the box, and the black on the other, that's the only way the timer turns on, but it doesn't make the lights turn on when i hit a button on the timer

so from the light to the box you have
1 black
1 white
1 copper

if that's the case it won't work. you have a hot (the white wire), a switch leg (the black), and a bonding conductor (the copper).

the switch you bought requires a neutral, and for you they did the splice in the light fixture.

at least that's what it looks like. is there a attic above the ceiling where the light is?? fyi when i wire a house i don't do it that way for this reasons like this. that's how they did it in the 70's, the old school guys think it's faster and it may be but take the extra 5 min to make a splice at the switch.

and no, there's no attic, it's on the first floor of a 2 storey

sorry, i don't have a way to do it. you can try and find a different switch that would work with the wires you have there.

from what i can tell you have
a hot
a switch leg

go to home depot or a electrical supplier and ask for a switch with a timer for that

I had a similar situation at my crap shack.

Fortunately, leviton makes a version of this exact timer that does not require the neutral to be present. There are some catches however:

- You can not exceed 500W total load (With a neutral will get you closer to 1200W)
- The load must be incandescent

Check out these models:
6512H-A
6512H-I
6512H-W
6515M-W
6560M-A

When I was looking, home depot and Rona did not carry these particular ones, I got mine at Ecole.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions, i went o a bunch of places today but they all either don't carry leviton or don't care the 65 series timers.... erggg

I went to 4 different places, eecol, graybar, westburne, and one other, nameco or something?

anyways they all either don't carry leviton or would have to special order the 65 series, and the 65 series does not come in a 30 minute one... bah.

I really don't want to wait 2 weeks for a special order, but i guess if i have to.

Now that I think about it, I too had to special order mine through Ecole, I went 60mins for mine, they also have a 30 min button on them I think.

I am suprised they didn't have it, they are probably a bit more industrial tho.

Saveon and Guillevin are just down the street from EW
