Just noticed that there was an Oakland or California Golden Seals and I started thinking of NHL teams of the past which have moved etc...

I think there was a Cleveland team, Hartford Whalers, Minnesota North Stars, Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Rockies, Quebec Nordiques, Oakland, Atlanta Flames...

What other teams were there? Is there any website that has them all listed?

Montreal Maroons, Toronto St. Pats, Vancouver Millionaires

There was at least one more Montreal team as well but cannot remember the name atm. I also believe there were a few others.

I also think there was a team called the Shamrocks but cannot remember the city.

The Seals were also noted for their skates:

White they were, imagine that.

As a lifelong Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars fan, the people of Minneapolis can never be forgiven for their part in allowing the team to be moved south, considering the Wild have been selling out ever since they received their 2nd franchise several years ago. I guess they learned something in the end... but still... no forgiveness for their shotty support of what became an elite team!

GO STARS! (Next season, that is!)

The Toronto St Pats are now known as the Maple Leafs.

Hey, at least the Leafs & the Oilers have both an identity and a history of success, regardless of how long ago it might have been...

So, if they are an examples of what a 'failed team' looks like, I don't know what Vancouver would be classified as.

lol...

Dude, Toronto is worth more than any other hockey franchise. Funny though.

I remember a few years back when we were worried we would lose the Flames.

Thanks guys, interesting list, more teams folded/moved than I thought.

Yea gotta hand it to the Leafs fans ... Leafs are still considered to be one of the most profitable franchise in the NHL. I am not sure I could say the same for the Flames, Oilers or the Canucks if we were in the same situation ... 40 years is a long time.

Calgary Tigers were not in the NHL but they challenged the Canadians for the 'Cup in the 20s sometime.
