View Full Version : Insurance Question

I'll keep this brief:

Would anyone happen to know what the insurance would be on a 1988 Trans Am for a 17 year-old boy?

I totalled a '98 Ford Escort (ZX2) the second day I had my license. This incident is NOW off my record, but my insurance company refuses to acknowledge the fact.

I now possess a '00 Ford Focus (wagon), and the insurance is about $1677 every 6/mo. Jesus Christ!

So what I'm wondering is, is if I downgrade (yes, an interesting choice of words) to an '88 Trans Am, will my insurance decrease? ESPECIALLY if I don't cover collision?

F(ucking n)00b in distress! Help!

Catn really tell you dude, it varies from company to company...so if you totalled the car and its not on your record it wasnt your fault???? if thats the case, just change insurance companies if one is giving you a shitty deal...just call around, easy enough to due to get a quote.

88 transam without collision, should be cheaper, but no guarantees. if your paying 1700$ every six months for a 2000 model, and ur only 17, be happy, thats a good deal. if that includes collision and liability.

Yes, but it's a 2000 FOCUS WAGON (lol).

About changing plans: my mother is trying.
I'm not sure what the situation is, but she's been having a little difficulty since they've threatened to resurface another accident claim she had in 2001 if we do indeed change insurance companies.
I just don't know... :(

Dont forget the trans am is a sports car, and will rank you higher for insurance than most sedans, including the focus.

Pick up an old beater, under $5000 and just get minimum coverage and drive defensivly....lol That will be the cheapest way to go.

Yeah, I figured.

...But would the fact that it's an '88 pay any detriment to insurance cost?

This is the beauty of it all:

The Trans Am I've been contemplating over is $3,000

Well the price is right but like buddy said above, it's a trans am.....which = more insurance. Get something not considered a sports car for under 5k. :) Of course if you do get minimum coverage then no worries.

I must have it!

Elaborate on the "minimum coverage" though...please.

PLPD is coverage that only covers the other party. If you have an accident and it's your fault then whoever you hit so to speek, gets their car covered but you don't. If it's their fault well then it's under their insurance so then you will be covered.

Also there will be no other coverage on your car either, like theft or vandalism etc....that's why you go for a cheap car in this situation so you don't loose a ton of money with an expensive car.

Ah, okay. Thanks.

I consider $3,000 relatively cheap. Are you insisting I go lower?

Oh hell no, 3k is good but it's up to you how much you are willing to loose. For me I'd go as high as 6k cause I'm a good driver....lol

It's the other driver you have to watch out for though (or so they say). ;)

Yeah but at least if it's their fault you don't loose the money you paid for your car and well.........hopfully you didn't get hurt! ha ha

Heh, nah.

It was my first night out with my new manual transmission vehicle (Ford Escort ZX2), and I T-Boned this Audi while (not on purpose) rolling into an intersection trying to shift into 2nd gear (what a n00b I am!).

insurance will be a bitch on that Trans Am. My friend had an 82 Camaro and his record was clean, guess what, he paid $750/month to keep that beast on the road

Our advice won't work with this guy. He's from the states, where insurance could be totally different than our system :).
