I was watching Marketplace on CBC this morning and they had a really interesting investigative report about Carfax... basically, Carfax is garbage. I recommend trying to find that Marketplace episode.

Link: Carfax doesn't always offer all the facts: Marketplace investigation (http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2009/01/15/marketplace-carfax.html)

If you can't find the episode here's a clip of the show mentioned on CBC News: http://www.cbc.ca/clips/mov/johnson-used-cars090115.mov

I did a quick seach and found other people talking about alternatives to Carfax on here (I also found a lot of people sharing Carfax with other people --- so apparently it's a waste of time and trust). Naturally, the best option is to go to a trusted mechanic before using an online database company... but if you have to use a database, it looks like Carfax should NOT be your first choice.

About as good as carfax - IN CANADA ALWAYS USE CARPROOF.

I bought a used car last summer, and it showed a collision on the vehicle that the second owner had no idea about.

Down went the price!
