Getting a Track/Daily for my fiance.

Debating between an 02 S2000 or 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata.

Miata can easily be tuned to 230whp, and has a lot of inexpensive track parts and is lighter weight. S2000 is a bit more masculine for when I have to drive it, and may be a bit more fun on the track, and I think looks better.

Need everyones thoughts on which to get. Remember this is not for me to drive, but for my Fiance.

Honda for re-sale value.

Having never driven either car, I voted for the Miata. Its got more power, stock turbo = good mod potential, lighter, and thus should make a great track car. Also its rarer; S2000's are a dime a dozen these days but I rarely see MSmiatas around.

i voted for the s2000 before i read that it's for your fiance. then again, if you'd have to drive it, maybe an s2000 is best, anyway. lol

Ask your fiance... I say MSP is better choice for a lady. She won't be intimitaded by MSP than S2000.

Yes. When looking for a used car you should buy the one with the highest resale value. :nut:

I'd buy the Miata.

Miata. Cheap, Fun, Reliable.

And with all the stuff Flyin' Miata puts out, you can pump about 300HP out of that baby for not alot of money. Transmissions in those are bulletproof, as are the diffs.

Its a really good budget car. Theres a couple things I wish MSP's had, like tilt steering, colour choices, Factory A/C.

S2000's are not a dime a dozen. I've only seen one during the past 1.5 weeks of nice weather. There not as common as people seem to believe. Even so, I would never buy a car based on that argument anyways...buy the Honda for the reliability, resale, tons of aftermarket options. And the first gen your interested in revs to 9000!!

Thanks for the responses guys, keep them coming.

I have had an S2000 in the past, fun car, but not much budget mod potential. My understanding is that the S2K will take a lot of $$ to get to 250 whp.

Also the Miata is about 3k less than an S2K so that is coilovers and bbk right there. I love S2000s, I love high reving cars (i have 2 others) but I am starting to think that the miata might be a better choice for her.

The Mazda is a better choice for your goals.

I would think that a Miata is better, but if your going to be driving it too, i would get the S2000. Although the Miata is cheaper, and has better potential it just doesnt seem as nice. :dunno:

I would get an s2k as well out of those 2 as I'm sure you know. :D Have you taken your fiance to check the cars out? Which one does she prefer or is she letting you decide?

I had a 2004 MSM for 3 years. I absolutely loved the little thing. The car was smooth, quiet and comfortable. The factory IHI turbo gives the car excellent torque all the way to the redline. No turbo lag at all. 6 speed was smooth and precise. It's a short throw but not as short as the S2000. Great brakes and stops well with its weight advantage. Pedals aligned properly for perfect heel-toe shifts. It was so much fun to throw around. I took it to lapping days and solo 2s. You can run the car all day long and not worry about anything. I also drove it in the winter with a set of studded KW19s. Tricky to drive since there's no traction control but I had 100% control.

I had a downpipe w/ high flow cat and muffler delete axle back pipe. Deep rumble sounded awesome. I still have the peices if you're interested and end up going with the MSM. The DP makes a huge difference in torque you can feel. OEM projectors work great with aftermarket HIDs.

Both are great cars. S2000 looks and feels more expensive but I think people tend to get more fun factor from the Miata. Both cars are rock solid with bullet proof drivetrains. Pick the one that appeals to you the most. I would choose the MSM because it's turbo and you can easily get HUGE gains with Flyin miata upgrades.
