Is this the Geology class about Dinosaurs for non-majors?

I heard this class is fucking mega hard, two of my buddies both in their last year of Bio with very high GPA's and experience in evolutionary biology were staggered by the amount of work they had to put into it lol

ahahah best mass email ever!

Subject: An open letter to the morons of the world: W2009GLGY307L01ž

To the morons of the world who are too lazy to come to class, make a friend with someone in the class who can give them the notes, or too timid to email the prof:

The textbook readings for the final are as follows: pages 304-363.

Now stop emailing everyone with your inane questions.

Same answers as me except for

M1:
34 (i put A) as well as a few of my friends, this is because gradual termination is when it doesn't fully extend to the end as you can see in picture A.

M2:
2 (i put A) almost sure its A because shell shape should help tell the difference between sexes, if they had diff shell shapes, they would be different species.

16 I believe is A.
15 should be D if you see powerpoint 10 slide 21. Shows 60% Cnidarians.
Also for 16, its in the textbook, it shows B and says possible ancestor of echinoderms.

23 is tricky because it says they are both but i'm going to go with you on B

Yeah there is a shitload, its taking me forever to get through lecture 13, so much fucking names its like how the helllll do you remember which allocates to whatt.

And I read all of the textbook. Up to 325 is semi useful, but other then that 330-363 is all Triassic - Cretac period which is lecture 18 so your reading 33 textbook pages on something that has 20 slides which contains none of the info you read in the textbook. Its interesting stuff but I wouldn't go over it because it just talks about each period and the evolution of the dinosaurs etc.

krazykhoja
04-24-2009, 06:53 PM
Its so difficult going through all the lectures...have a feeling I'll be at uni late tonight and early tomorrow. The names are a bitch because they all sound made up its hard to remember what is it...

Good luck all!

And yeah, there are so many names to memorize, plus I think you need to know if they are Middle Devonian/Upper Devonian etc. for some of the things since he seemingly emphasized them in class.

Do you happen to know how many questions are on the final?

15 from first midterm, 15 from 2nd midterm, 70 from new material, 1 bonus question (answer on prev page)

and i agree, amnifuckgeology, i was going to ask him to change the format to 20/20/60 after he said he was going to do it from the prev midterms.

For the final theres 100 questions.

15 from each midterm, 55 from the lectures and 15 from the textbook readings.

He posted the info on blackboard if you'd like to check, it also tells what the readings are.

I still havnn't gotten to the readings not sure at this point if I will get to them.

Alrighty, good stuff. If you want to read the textbook, I would suggest the 304-312, 315-323

It really helps you understand the first two lectures about plants.

When is the bonus assignment due? I emailed him and he said April 27...then right after he sent a mass email saying the last day to submit it is the day of the exam (April 25).

If I have time ill try to do it...for those that did it, what did you get? Could someone send me theirs so I have an "idea" of what to write HAHA

I know he said that. But I asked him he said it can be upto 10 pages ... lol ... I know no one would want to do 10 pages when 3 are enough but that's what he said.
But for most part ...not with everybody ... you'd notice that he is giving good marks to people who're not doing so good. Most 80s and 90s are getting 3-4 and a bare 5 ...I know somebody in 90s got a 10 but if you're not doing so good you got a good chance of getting a 5 or 6. ..just give him something and you'll get marks. Only a couple of zeros for 50+assignments.

Triassic Marine Life
Plesiosaur: a Mesozoic marine reptile with a euryapsid skull type, a broad body, and large, paddlelike limbs
Ichthyosaur: a Mesozoic marine reptile with a dolphin-like body

Triassic Life of the Triassic
Archosaur: a reptile having a diapsid skull type with teeth set in sockets. This group includes the crocodiles, pterosaurs, dinosaurs, and birds

Early-Middle Mesozoic Tectonic events

for this question everyone agreed its b. the cast, but isnt the external the mold or answer c?

6. Part of a fossil in moldic fossilization that preserves the features of the external surface of the shell or carapace.
a. The external surface of a shell or carapace is never preserved.
b. The cast.
c. The mold.
d. Both cast and mold.
e. The mold but only in the case of exceptional preservation.

yo, do you know if you're only supposed to go over the previous midterms or do you actually need to study all the material before Midterm 2 all over again. Earlier somebody said that 31 questions are already given so that's 30 (15 and 15 from previous midterms) + 1 bonus. I'm so confused. I walked in exactly when he decided it was going to be 70/15/15. So missed that part. Please lemme know. Thx.

agreed. I guess m gonna make a geological time scale thing and then mark what animals, plants or these primitive animal/plant wannabes belong on the table. And prolly try to visualize it. It's easy to memorize lecture by lecture but once you do more than one lecture, you started to confuse things.

icky2unk

i've been going through each lecture seperately, its just a pain in the ass to know the names and then what periods. He shoulda told us which specific ones need to have the period matched up with it.

yeh. But in a way he has already given us 50 questions with an answer. I mean (31 + about 15-20 in the notes). But do you remember he actually said there is going to be a lot of questions on these species and their periods of existence. lol.

What i'm not liking is the fact that not only do you have to memorize the period but also diversity peaks for the same species :whipped:

Ya, I memorized lots of things from the slides that wasn't there..was so pissed at that lol...

Im pretty pissed though that he told us to know stuff & then didn't put it on the exam...like what a waste

A joke? :banghead:

I totally didn't read the textbook either. For the midterms it was just the definitions, and he did say that it would be focused on the definitions again this time, so I didn't bother reading the content. Got screwed over.

Now I wish I did the bonus assignment.

It's pretty unfair for him to tell us what's supposedly on the final, and then not put 90% of the stuff on there. I'd rather have him not tell us anything instead so I don't focus on the wrong stuff.

I think I pretty much went from an A down to a B after that exam.

I thought it was good that he subdivided the exam.

But I completely agree that I had troubles with all those questions asking about the time periods - especially since you need to know if they were Upper, Middle or Lower. It was ridiculous. And ugh, I kind of regret not reading the textbook. Oh well. The damage is done.

OH MY GOD LOL

the time periods owned me. i had no idea.
some were SO hard to remember, upper or middle.. so many dilemmas during the exam, jesus.

that was bullshit cya later A, hello B

Other than that i think I did pretty good, I found the 3rd part on the text to be easier than the middle part for slides for some reason

lets just hope this is curved because im sure everyone struggled, there was simply WAY to much to memorize, redicilous.

That's so sneaky. A bonus assignment should just be that - a bonus. The final shouldn't be harder as a result of it.

But there's really nothing we can do.
