Yesterday was my annual detail for my Civic. I spent 6 grueling hours on a 4 Stage process!. In the past I have detailed by hand, so this time was kind of nice to have an orbital buffer to assist me!. Since I spent so much time treating the paint I decided to take a few pictures since some of you may enjoy seeing the before and after. The car really turned out nicely! Although the pictures really don't do my vehicle justice!, However they still look good. Here is the process! Step 1 - Clay vehicle using clay bar. Step 2 - Polish vehicle. Step 3 - Wax vehicle with synhetic wax * for long lasting protection * Step 4 - Wax vehicle a second time with carnuba wax * for showroom shine * So without further a due I give you my pics! Nice. I want to do this but I don't wanna screw anything up. Did you follow a guide somewhere or anything like that?

There are some paint blemishes on my vehicle which I could not fix! To your question I have been doing this for a few years now and I've really only figured it out through trial and error. You can search the internet / youtube and they have some good pointers to get you started. As for the polish I did not use a super abrasive polish, I did not have any scratches I needed to touch up, all of the dings / rock chips are to deep for a high abrasive polish or wet sand to cure. If you are wanting to start out I say Clay / Polish / Wax. While waxing I find a two stage really gives you the best shine. It's a good idea to use synthetic wax as your first coat as it lasts anywhere from 6 - 9 months!. Carnuba wax on the other hand is what gives you the deep shine however it only lasts 1 - 2 months, so use both! First stage Synthetic, second stage Carnuba!.
