Hi All,

So recently my Rebel Xti was left out of my hands, and someone took it upon themselves to try and jam the mem card in ass backwards, subsequently bending 3 of the connector pins. I foolishly sent it off to Canon for repair, but their repair estimate is $275! I could barely sell my Xti for that, so my question is A. Is there any where more reasonable in Calgary that can repair Canon DSLR's, B. Perhaps this is a good time to upgrade to a 40D with current prices for the 40D? and C. If so with B, where is the best price to snipe a 40D for dirt cheap right now. I saw that Black's had the body for 899, while Vistek has the 40D body listed on web for 1,099.00, and the 17-85 combo for 1499 (which seems like a lot!).

Please let me know your thoughts, I need some guru advice.

PS. Dont need full frame, heart and needs set on 40D!

This may or may not help you but Futureshop.ca had the 40d with 17-85mm kit on clearance for 1167.97 + gst (free shipping) a week a go. Perhaps you can get another camera store to price match it. I wanted this camera for so long and I finally got it for a reasonable price.

I think it was Phototech that I called last time and the guy said they don't do DSLR's. But you can try asking.

I knew someone who bent CF pins. They managed to get it fixed with those extra long needle nosed pliers.

They are just bent, not broken, and only a few of them. Perhaps any electronics repair could just get in their with some tiny pliers and bend them back?

Any advice for the best place for prices on 40D's?

it shouldnt be impossible to bend back with tweezers or jeweler pliers...

I know back when i had a s400 that took a cf card, i had to put a credit card in (trimmed to size) to make the rows of pins straight, then from there adjust using tweezers...do it at your own risk tho...
