I have a HP dv5000 laptop, it`s a couple years old. About 2 months ago I was having problems with the original battery no longer holding a good charge. I purchased a new battery and it worked fine for a couple weeks.

Now, neither of the batteries are holding a charge at all. When I plug in the charger, it only shows as the laptop running off ac power and the battery not charging at all.

I`m trying to determine whether the problem is the batteries themselves or whether there is a problem with the connection between the battery and laptop.

Any help appreciated.

One other note is that now when I start up the laptop it boots, loads everything and then usually cuts out and dies within a minute or two of starting.

to answer second message, seems it's running on battery

take out battery and run off the A/C - let me know if it starts

I've tried running without the battery and it won't power on.

I reckon the solder points on the AC jack inside the laptop are broken. Try moving the adapter end inside the laptop around firmly and carefully until you get a 'power' light. If not, and you feel adventurous, open the back cover so that jack is visible on the PCB and visually look for a break. If you see a break or can confirm it, break out the soldering iron.

I'll open it up and check it out. Thanks.
