so last night i was driving and everything seemed fine, when i went to idle my car died. now it will start up again (or at least has up to this point) but will keep stalling on idle. i have to keep the rpms up in order for it to stay running.

what does this sound like to you? is it a bad battery?

Def. not a bad battery if the starter cranks. Alternator is probably good too so don't think it's that.

Like 5000Audi said, most likely a vac leak between the MAF or AFM and the throttle body. If it's stalling, depending on the year, would signal a large vac. leak. If RPM's are bouncing, it's probably minor but still needs fixing.

yeah. this car does have an idle surge as well. when the clutch is engaged it will bounce around (1300-1900) when its cold.

so i did a bit more digging and found that the issue is probably the ISC (idle speed controller).

this is apparently the problem for stalling plus a rough idle, and also seems to be a common problem (one of many) with these dsm's.

and dsmers on here have a spare isc for me to buy?
