View Full Version : Race city poll on CFCN

The weekend poll on CFCN.ca is should city hall spend an extra 2-3 million bucks to keep Race city open...I know this poll is not a real life-changer, but let's all get on it and tell the city that if they can spend millions of dollars on fucking pedestrian bridges, they can spend a few million extra to keep open the only raceway that's available for a long distance.

Possibly not. Is not saying anything going to make a difference?

I get a kick out of the commenters who say shit like "taxpayers shouldnt be on the hook for this"

yah, i dont think they will be saying this when some street racing dick head who could have used race city, is using the street instead and ends up killing one of their family members.

Just because you dont do that, doesnt mean taxpayers money shouldnt be used for it. I dont walk my dog in any of the parks, nor do i use any of the parks or most other things publicly available...does that mean my tax dollars shouldnt go to it anyways? I dont have kids.... why are my tax dollars paying for schools? Because thats how it is, and i dont have a problem with that.

I hope this works, i really do.

You're getitng too dramatical and emotive ...

I like how all of the misinformed comments there assume that they just need this amount of money to keep the track open when it is the lease that is running up due to the city.
Voted though, perhaps beyond can add many comments to the story.

Alot of people on that site don't see the big picture in closing Race City. Closing it is just gonna give street racers an excuse for what they do.

The thing is though, there are NO excuses to be racing in public roads period. I hope they don't close Race City either, but if they do, taking it to the streets won't make them re-open Race City. Two wrongs don't make a right.

thats a really shitty question to ask tho. I'm sure the result would be very different if it was "should city council extend the lease to race city?"

As much as I'd hate to see it go, if the private sector can't support a track then there just isn't enough demand in Calgary for one.

everyone should vote NO so they can hurry up and demolish that dump. As long as Race City is around there is no motivation to finance something new and better. Calgary will eventually have a nice new race track. The longer Race City sticks around, the longer that will take.

Because voting for this issue on an online website is sure to do something and isn't a waste of time......

Its not about whether voting on a website will make a difference or not persay, but more of showing the support and giving light to how many people actually do care about stuff like this and make use of these facilities.

Public opinion means a lot to MPs and people who want to get reelected, so yeah, voting for this issue on an online website might actually do something.

I voted no.

The government should not be in the racetrack business.

Let the private sector pay for it if its such a great investment.

My thoughts exactly. The owners have barely put a cent into this place since it was built, and it shows. By delaying the inevitable, this facility is just going to get worse and worse as no smart businessman will put money into something that will be bulldozed in due time.

VOTE FOR CHANGE!
