I am doing some Indonesian cooking and I am having trouble finding both of these. Does anyone know where I can find them (I know T&T, but it is pretty far out of my way). Is there someplace in Chinatown that would carry these?

There's a tiny grocery store across from that Indian Buffett place that might carry that stuff. (does it still exist?)

Or try up Centre St at Lambda grocery.

T&T is probably still the best bet for a variety of Asian style sauces. I know I've seen more versions of sweet chili sauce there than anywhere else in calgary, and something like 15 different varieties of shrimp pastes and about a bazillion different soy sauces

+1^ or i could sell you some bricks from the keys and keys of belacan my parents bring back every year from M'sia haha i swear one from every village.

the sweet soy sauce you're probably looking for is a.k.a kecap manis in malay (same language as indonesian literally sweet soy sauce) look for 'Indofood' brand for that one.

Both are available at any Chinatown grocery store as they are pretty common items.

Yeah you can find Shrimp paste for sure at T & T or Lucky's Supermarket

And just FYI, if your using shrimp paste, only use in your own home, it smells like SHIT

Thanks for the help. I went to Chinatown and could not find anything (maybe a little language barrier though). I will just have to head to T&T on the weekend.

Thanks for the heads up about it smelling like shit...maybe I will cook outside ha!
