what kind of deck is it?

Sometimes you'll have to hit the source or power buttons. Make sure the ground is made well and triple check those connections.

Should just be red, black and yellow to hook up.

What kind of deck is it? Don't some deck's require a 'key' CD to be inserted to power up the first time or something?

Try hitting the reset button on the back and then on power up hit the SRC button to turn it on. Make sure that you have the correct wires from your cars harness too...they won't necessarily match up. I know I've seen cars with yellow and red wires for speakers before instead of the standard 12v constant / ignition.

if its just a basic deck it SHOULD light up if all the wiring is correct.

Has it EVER worked in the history of you owning it?
I might be able to do an install this week for you. What area of the city are you in?

hook it up directly to the battery quickly to make sure it really works...if it does then check wiring AGAIN!
