Hey guys, so I put my car up for sale on Kijiji and Craigslist, and about an hour later I get a call from a guy from a company called "Private Vehicle Exchange" telling me that he has secured 2 buyers for me already and they are willing to pay $1000 more than what I am asking for (haha).

He said there is a $399 fee for this and when I pay it he will secure the sale for me. Obviously, not being a stupid ass, I didn't give him my CC info, and told him I'd call him back after I did some research.

Anyone have any info on this? Is it a scam?

edit: and here's their website

I did, I Googled them and nothing came up but their website, and nothing on Beyond either. But, that was a pretty obvious scam.

The guy gave me a name and number too.

Oh it's a scam alright.

Next time tell him to cut you a cheque less the $399 fee if he is so sure he can sell your car and if he indeed has two people willing to pay $1K over your asking price. Tell him to keep the change too.

They were Global something or other before I think. Same concept different company name. They even raised the price. It used to be $299.

Found the old thread for it. Global Auto Registry

Alright, I didn't want to make a new thread, what does everyone think of this guy? Seems scam worthy to me but he said he'd pay me then someone would come pick up the car.

"Thanks for the mail ,i am buying the car as a birthday gift for my dad and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and i really want the car to be a surprise for him,so i wont let him know anything abt it until it gets delivered to him , i am sure he will be very happy with it.I will pay you with my paypal because i dont have access to my bank account online as i dont have internet banking as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the car and pls if you dont have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through.I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments."

Maybe I didn't understand, what's the issue with paypal? Can he withdraw his payment or something?

For one thing, the paypal address he gave you is for AUSTRALIA! You must have one special car...

^^ LOL.

I'm thinking that's the idea with the paypal thing. The guy could lie and say you never gave him the car and claw his money back from ya though paypal dispute. Seems kinda risky for the scammer though if paypal were to call bullshit on them.

The rule of thumb is:

If it makes you uncomfortable, don't go for it. Simple.

As for the OP: They say they have buyers, but if you give them your money you'll never see it again.

Stay away from them. " Private Vehicle Exchange" is a complete scam and I was sucked in and cost me $399. I had a car listed in craiglist and called by Michael from Edmonton. He told me he had 2 buyers lined up to buy my car. What a pile of BULL. I put him off twice but finally buckled and coughed up $399 and now I have kissed it goodbye. After 2 months didn't get 1 phone call or inquiry. I checked my posting and after 2 months the car was viewed ONCE on the website. I tried to contact them about their 60 day refund policy (all but $99) but never heard back. List your car with them and kiss your money goodbye.
