MDX without a doubt

its a 08 vs 05 ..wonder what would last longer?? :dunno: basically your choosing between a luxury vehicle that may have more problems than recent vehicles and a hyundai which to me is not as luxury but can still do the job and last much longer.

Why would the Hyndai last much longer? You saying the MDX has a limited life? I beg to differ

Are they priced the same?

Are they both fully loaded?

How much risk you want to take with a vehicle that got 0 warranty left VS one that has b2b 3 year warranty left?

I don't trust that gen MDX because of the famous tranny failure rate. I would go with Hyundai.

If its a fully loaded Sante Fe, I'd go with that only cuz its newer

Look up Honda Automatic transmission problems.

^^ i am aware of the tranny issues with 01-06 model mdx's. There was a flaw, and many of them were replaced under warranty.

If the OP is looking for a good suv and doesn't want to deal with the tranny concern with the mdx, why not look at the Honda Pilot!

The Pilot never had any major issues. I bought an 05 for my mom brand new, never had a single problem with it, ever. Also, because the engine is a point less compression, it can run on regular unleaded gas.

Go with the not Hyundai.

The '05 MDX is nearly out of warranty. The Hyundai will have one for a very long time.

how long do you plan on keeping it? resale on the MDX would probably net you less of a loss if sold in the short term.

Im not saying the MDX has a limited life but most likely the MDX will have higher km than the hyundai. A 05 MDX may even start to show problems after 4 years. Basically...4 year old MDX vs 1 year old Hyundai. I would have to consider questions such as which vehicle is most likely to have their first problem, how much will I have to spend on repairs, etc

Personally I vote Murano. Better than MDX all around for that year. And better mileage

Thanks guys.

Both the MDX and the Santa fe are fully loaded.
Santa fe in perfect condition, low km under warranty.
05 MDX about 130k+. Good condition

Both priced pretty much the same.

I feel much more comfortable in the mdx no doubt. Everything looks and feels much better quality than the Hyundai.

My biggest concern is exactly what you guys mentioned :
Which will last longer?
How high is the risk of getting an older used BUT reliable MDX compared with the not so luxury less reliable But new Santa fe.

Again thanks for all the feedback

Santa Fe especially because MDX has so many kms on it for being an 05. I checked out an 04 mdx a while ago and the interior reminded me of my old integra. :dunno:

MDX's have that honda feel to them, not really a luxury car feel.

They are still a great honda product but perhaps a tad pricey for what they offer.

The Santa fe has a great price tag and offers nearly the same as the MDX for a lot less KM's. I've driven a few and they totally surprised me in terms of drive quality and feel.

I'd get either without worrying, hell I'd pick based on colour :p

I laugh when people equate Acura with Luxury.

OP, what makes you think the Acura will be more reliable than the Santa-Fe?

what's the price on the 05 MDX if I may ask?
I'd say pass on this MDX, too many km's..

08 Sante Fe for sure considering the amount of mileage on the 05 MDX and the fact that it is (or will be) out of warranty

How can you even compare an MDX to a Hyundai?? Now I may be a little bias, but we love our MDX and honestly, every single Hyundai I have ever ridden in feels so cheaply made.

Comparing an MDX to a Santa Fe is like comparing a bagel to bread just because they are both grain products and have 4 wheels...

I feel the same way. I love the MDX, but I can't decide if it's worth taking the risk of buying an older car without warranty, if for almost the same price I can get a new suv, with low miles and factory warranty.

 what kind of bread do you eat?

I'd go with the Santa Fe. (if you are strictly asking to pick between the 2 options above)

Why? Because it's newer, it's newer, its newer, it has less km's, yes, it's a Hyundai but from what I've seen the quality has improved greatly, over the last few years.

You forgot that the bagel has been sitting on the counter for 4 days while the bread has been on the counter for 1 ...

I'd go with the Sante Fe - same reason as everyone else said here. The mileage on the MDX and the warranty available on it (or lack thereof). :)
