View Full Version : 31"s on the Neee-san - rubbing

Just got a wicked deal on some 31"s mounted on some toyota wheels...picked them up and threw them on my '94 pathfinder last night.

I'm rubbing on the front fender area when I turn too much in either direction. What can I use to cut out a small chunk from the fender?

Rubbing where indicated in the picture..
(black metal piece)

Thanks :burnout:

hacksaw, dremel, sawzall... ???

lots of discussion regarding cutting fenders online...

I have the same truck, when I changed the wheels to some 15x8' with 3.75" backspace it gave my truck a nice wide stance and had the same problem.

I was able to just bend the metal part out a bit towards the front. I don't have as big of tires but for me it was the added wheel width in conjunction with the lower backspace (wheels further out from center line of truck)

if you need to cut it I would use a sawsall and a dremel to clean it up, or a grinder.

Cheers - I will look into that!

Where can I purchase this sawsall?

you can get a sawzall at most hardware type places, i have a set from rona that has the cordless drill/saw/reciprical saw( like sawzall), light etc.

No cutting is needed. You need to tighten the Torsion bars to raise the front end. You'll be lifting your truck (Cranking on the torsion bars).

Be sure to get an alignment done afterwards.

a grinder with a metal cutting wheel will work much better than a sawzall

The green Pathfinder has a 3inch Body lift.
My Blue Pathfinder has a 3inch Suspension lift, (the front is lifted ONLY with torsion bars)

Brilliant info..

How does one go about tightening the torsion bars?
I hear its not something one can do on their own..

That white jeep behind you in that pic..is it on 33"s?

We all need to get together again and go out. I was thinking maybe this weekend, but I might just end up sitting around the house.

Is the owner of the Red Nismo Frontier a member here on Beyond?

Also, would there be another stocker run coming up?

CelicaST-162, are the ones in your pictures that set you were planning on selling me? You mentioned you have a 3" suspension lift in the back as well? I don't mind cranking up my front torsion bars, but do you think my stock rear height will be enough for the 31s? Speaking of which, did you get them back from your friend yet? I'm still interested in picking them up from you (assuming the tread's still in good shape).

You should pop over to Kijiji to see how many are for sale right now. The selection is impressive and some of the prices are quite good too.

Your stock rear height will be fine with 31's. Pathys depending on the trim level came stock with 31's.

If I have time to wash out the radiator I may be up for another run as long as I don't overheat LOL that mud hole did a number on me.

Slow and steady wins the race. Well, sometimes. I used to drive like a madman. I blew the rad in my jeep climbing top of the world shortly after I smashed through a mudhole hahaha.

I'll be up for a run to top of the world this sunday. Bring a full size spare folks, theres lots of rocks up there.

FYI your stock height with 31's should be just fine.. raising the bars in the front will cause a little higher pitch and watch for steering issue's but as long as you dont go to crazy either way you should be just fine.. I've lowered many D21 pickups and raised pathys before with little to no problems.. BTW congrats on a fun peice of machine... Good luck in the Mud...
