View Full Version : Good shop to get rims trued

I just got me a bike that cost me a little, and I wanna make sure it gets trued by a professional vs me breaking a spoke in me garage :)

I'm guessing Bow Cycle and Eurotech already, but I'm wondering what the average price for a "bike tune up" would be

Avg. price is 80-100
Done tuneups at both Eurotech and Bow Cycle.

Of the two, id rather go back to Eurotech cycle.

Eurotech is actually within an easy 10 minute bike from my place, so that works out nicely

I'd be looking at (most likely):

-rims trued, front and back
-shifters adjusted
-new brake pads front and rear (the ones on there are at about 1/4) and brakes adjusted to go with rim truing
-regular servicing otherwise included in a tune up :P

From the Eurotech page, looks like a "Basic Tune Up" would be what I'd get :)

I actually got a custom tune up at MEC for $45ish the other day. New rear brakes and brake cable, new chain, derailleurs adjusted, rear wheel trued (7mm out of alignment  ), brake tensions adjusted. Also, free of charge (cuz the mechanic was a kickass guy), I got all the oily bits oiled, the greaseable bits greased, some superawesome chain lubricant applied on top of the service greasing, and had the shocks (front and back) inspected and tested. Should have cost me a lot more, but because the guy liked the bike so much and was chatting with me the whole time, he gave me the whole deal for (getting receipt here!) $46.50 for labor and parts.

MEC is fast becoming a favorite place of mine. LOTS of gear, the staff actually know what the fuck they're talking about (and each department has specialty staff, so if I need to go find a good pair of hiking shorts, they have a specialist for that :P ), and the service is fast (for a minor service like mine) and friendly. Learned of about 10 new trails/pathways to try out over the summer from the mechanic, who is an avid XC rider.
