This may be a loaded question but i am looking for any help I can get. I am looking to pick up a summer toy and have been looking at a few different cars. My purpose for buying this car is to have a 1/4mile fun filled summer!!

Anyways to narrow down my choices I am looking for your opinions on which car would be the best 1/4mile toy. I dont have a huge budget so my choices are limited to near stock cars, except the swapped hondas.

Options are:

- EG Hatch - B16, exhaust, intake

-Stock Integra GSR 94-95

-180sx - exhaust/intake

-MR2 Turbo - exhaust

-91-92 CRX with b16 swap - exhaust/intake

-89-91 skyline GTS-T - exhaust/intake

This is all I can think of that I have found within my $6000 budget. If there are better choices please feel free to let me know!

Thanks

How about a 5.0 Mustang?

Skrilla

have thought about them aswell, but I cant find a decent one for under 6K.

Would it be that much faster?

If it is only going to be 1/4 mile car... I would go with the 180sx.

My rationale...

RWD > FWD

LHD > RHD

180sx aftermarket is cheaper than the MR2 aftermarket and you have more space for a bigger engine and tires.

those are all wrong choices if you are looking for a fast 1/4 times

All of those cars seem slow on the quarter mile are more in the realm of autoX or road course cars.

I suggest the Mustang 5.0 as well.

definatly a 5.0 mustang. they are known for being one of the easiest/cheapest cars to make fast. you can get a good car (good engine, decent body) for anywhere between 2500-5000. and do basic boltons and your gonna be in the 12's. exhaust, cams, headers, cai and slicks would prolly put you in the low 13's to high 12's

What "should" a EG hatch with a b16 run around here in the 1/4? with just minor add ons.

Mid 15's

You could also do a junkyard turbo/nitrous setup on a d series motor. It will be much cheaper, it probably wont last too long, but this is the last year for racecity anyways.

strip a dsm to the shell throw a few hundred in it and 13's should be easy.

dam thought they woulda been a tad quicker. Oh well, it seems like a 5.0L is the best bet, just really wanted to stick with an import.

Found a nice crx with a gsr swap but looks to pretty to track

fastest out of there is the skyline. but i would buy a talon

Skrilla

What you figure the skyline would run? And what year of talon would be best with little to no upgrades? wanna be closer to $4000-$5000.

Get a decent DSM make sure it's AWD, with free mods and a good driver and just intake exhaust you'll do 14's. Get a fmic, 16g boost controller and you'll hit 13's with a good enough driver.

A 180SX and a GTS-T would be close together.

Skyline with intake full exhaust and electronic boost controller will run mid 14s if ur a good driver u might hit low 14s. If ur a good driver. I'd buy a 1ga talon u can find one for like 2000 tsi awd. Then put intake exhaust Evo 16g injectors and a safc 2 and u'll run 13s

Same shit really with the skyline rb25 turbo and gtr injectors with safc2 ur in 13s but initial cost of car is more

Definately pick yourself up an AWD Talon and put a couple grand into it.

Talon will be the fastest for the cheapest as long as you look around a little. There are some good deals out there on them.. hell I think someone posted a link to a free one on the boards the other day dunno if it was a TSI though. You might be able to get a talon into low 13s maybe 12s for 6000 if you find a TSI for around $2K.. and they are out there.

Also... DSMs are 100% reliable most of the time too ;)

What you really want is a 93 celica GT4. 2.0l turbo AWD!! Go fast down the track and look good doing it!

Yup.

They are also notorious for having one of the most costly clutch replacements.

GC8A WRX if you can find one in your budget range.

Fastest car on a budget?

Late 80's Dodge shadow coupe 5sp, 2.2L turbo.

Do a junkyard intercooler, home depot boost controller (14.5psi max then ECU cuts), Strip it, 3" exhaust/Intake and drive it till it blows up. All that can be had for about 1500 including the car hahah.

Good for 14's.

5.0, cheapest easiest way
Foxbody especially, lightest

You can run to low 13's with just 4.10s, exhaust, headers, springs, shocks and a good wheel/tire combo

Stick with the T5, as its good enough for the car until you reach into the low 12's, which you won't get out of the stock motor without forced' induction or NX

Anomaly

I'd go 5.0
The talon's can be made fast for cheap, but there reliability of the drive line leaves alot to be desired... Alot less likely to break a drive line component on the mustang, imo
