Alberta's Top 10 Quickest Sport Compacts (Rules Post)

General Eligibility Requirements for 2009

1. Vehicle must be owned by an Alberta resident or business. Vehicle must be registered and insured in the province of Alberta.

3. A digital photo or scan of your time slip [JPG format], which clearly indicates the Track, Date and your cars time must be submitted. Handwritten slips will not be accepted, pray the printer is working.
4. Video may also be used to submit your time IF a time slips is not available. [WMV format] Your video must clearly show the entire pass from start to finish and MUST clearly show the tower displaying both the MPH and the ET. In car video will not be suitable. Video alone may only be used in the case of cars running 11.49 or slower. All times quicker than 11.49 must have a valid time slip and back-up pass time slip or video.
5. When you submit your time, please include your Car Make/Model/Year and the name/screen name you wish to have displayed in the list.

Additional Information:

1. Primary fuel for eligible vehicles must be gasoline. Use of Race Gasoline is permitted. Water/Methanol Injection is permitted. Nitrous Oxide is Permitted.
2. Eligible cars must be streetable with the exception of tires. All variations of tire construction are permitted. Bias ply Slicks, Drag Radials or Street Radials.
3. Eligible engines (v8less) must be of an overhead cam (OHC) configuration. [exception: RX-7/8 Etc. Rotary]
4. All formats of drive, be it RWD, FWD or AWD are eligible for the list.

For the purpose of this list a Sport Compact is defined as follows:

Any vehicle with an OEM engine displacement less than 3.5L. [3,500cc or 213.5 cubic inches.] Cars with stroker kits are permitted, providing that they do not exceed the displacement cap. Example a stroked 350z would be ineligible. A 2.4L stroked to 2.6L would be eligible.

11.49 or quicker Pass Requirements:

1. A back-up pass is required for passes quicker than 11.49 seconds. Your quickest pass needs to be backed up by a secondary pass that is within 0.25 seconds of the quick pass ET. Example, a pass of 11.13 must be backed up with a second pass that is 11.38 or quicker. Back-up passes must occur within a 45 day period.
2. Times submitted without a back-up pass will be allowed on the list, noted with an asterix, indicating that a back-up pass is yet to be completed. These times will be removed if a valid back-up pass is not submitted within the 45 day allowance.

I am trying to keep the Quickest Sport Compacts list going for 2009.
I do not plan to make any rules changes. The rules will be the same rules as past years.

Thank you & Good Luck
Toby

yeah thats awsome. only if I had some better tires on. I would have wasted you. but my first run was pitiful that night. 16.1 because my fpr vacum line came off. after I fixed that it turned out way better but once I get a few more things sorted out I may knock you down on that list.

however it was still fun no matter how you look at it.

Yup, pretty impressive considering it is FWD with slicks. It's tough to hook 'em up. I consider a 1.7x time good with FWD and slicks.

And they need a back up past. I was there for Ron's past & seen the slip. When I get it I will post it.

Zman knows the rules, when he is ready he'll sent it. I think he might be waiting for a 10's slip.

Z_Fan
09-26-2009, 09:17 AM
Yeah, AFAIK Tomaz 10.8 has no back-up pass because he was kicked off for having no roll protection.

The Civic was also kicked off for having no roll protection. However, I also know that his pass is backed up before he got the boot.

I have roll protection so I haven't been kicked off yet and I do have a back-up pass for my 11.02.

Yeah not bad. Looks like I can do 10's even in Calgary but can definitely do them in Edmonton or Medicine Hat.

I haven't been overly serious about running a 10, and was just frankly out to see what the car would do. I was very surprised it was as close to just "doing it" with no real practice or fine tuning. (ie, this is a canned tune ECU, no fine tune tire pressure which can be important, no two step) Just kind of went out for fun the first night for 3 passes and was happy to just have a running car! Then went back with the boost up a little to be surprised with an 11.3. Up the boost from 75% to 85% and ran the 11.02 on a good hook. Up the boost from 85% to 90% and ran 11.04 on a poor hook but with a few more MPH from the extra boost. Math says it runs 10's when you hook and have the boost up to 90%.

But with only 2 passes last time out, and no good hook, it was nice to see an 11.04 knowing it was not ideal...

I figure if I get the drag radial off, and put on the bias ply ET street (which I have sitting in the garage mounted) that should help the hook. Get the hook and I should get a 10 in Calgary using the same set-up.

If not, I can...

Take it to Edmonton where it should just run it with the same set up. (IMO)

Or...

Turn up the boost to 100% and just let it run the PSI it runs. Usually 26-27 and hope that is enough.

But again, I'm not sure I'll get out again this year. I might be able to if Calgary is running October 9th. And if it is running, I'll have the Bias Ply ET streets strapped on and I will definitely be trying for the 10 since I know it's there. If not, I'll do it next year when I should have more time...to be real honest, I'm just happy I have a car that is NOT BROKEN which will be sitting in the garage this winter - and that alone might be more important than running a 10 second pass. Hahah. So maybe I should leave well enough alone and park it.

Yeah I'm debating going for my 9 this year, mght just be nice to have the car sit all winter without habing to work on it "much":D

Well, the Beetle is not fast enough to compete with all the 9 and 10-second cars here, but I did finally get into the 12's at Castrol Raceway. Running Weber IDA carbs this year, but I might have to consider nitrous or a turbo next year. Ran three 12-second passes, with a best of 12.942 seconds at 104.27 MPH. Got to get the 60-foot times down for next year:

Doesn't really matter if it goes on the list or not. Still #1 and you know you did it. That's all that really matters. Good job. Hopefully next year low 9's or high 8's.

Race City is supposedly going to be open until the end of October weather permitting. They are looking to be open October 16th (Next Friday) as the weather is supposed to be 15 degrees. Could be some people running and wanting to submit slips after this week is all I am saying... :D
