He did an interview on the Fan 960 yesterday afternoon because they were having the Flame alumni Charity Golf Tournament yesterday. He seemed to have his poop in a group.

I liked his remarks on the past season. When asked about Keenan he kinda changed the topic and then mentioned that when he was playing on the powerplay line on the cup winning team it was loaded with hall of famers and even though the line was talented (Fleury Niewy, Gilmour, Roberts, Mcinnis) They "STILL" practiced the powerplay every day.

Then he went on to basically say that any team that does not practice the PP in today's NHL with all the rules and penalties called is just aking to loose. He was really emphatic, and it was good to hear.

He also did an interview with Global earlier this week to mark the 20th anniversary of the Stanley Cup win.

The first thing I noticed was how much better and healthier he was looking.

Thats not Theoren Fleury's car... the owners name is Scott, and thats how you spell HIS last name.

While on the T.Fleury Topic.. apparently he is trying to make a comback this year...trying to get a tryout with various pro teams. Including the Flames. My Pops golfed in his foursome at the tourny...

Yeah, he was on Flames PPV quite a bit this year around the time when Iggy was about to break his scoring record (he also did some colour commentary too). It was good to see he didn't look like the complete wreck he was a few years back.

Not sure if he could last the regular season but he would have contributed more than Cammelari in the finals.

Yeah any real flames fan from back in the day does.

There were so many nights during the dark days, where the only way we'd win is if Fleury scored and Braithwaie had a shutout. Addictions or not, he played his heart out for the flames.

Same here, Fleury was my favorite player when I was a youngster. I've been really happy to see the guy getting his life straightened out.

Apparently he has been clean for 4 years.. and said he was in the best shape of his life! Be interesting to see anyways.. couldnt hurt a team to at least give him a tryout.
Not sure how I would feel about him playing for the Flames again.. it would be interesting though!

Maybe he has...

I don't believe he's been clean for 4 years. I've seen him a couple times in the past 2-3 years at various Calgary casinos, and he was a little messed up to say the least.

Im a huge Fleury fan, but lets be real. He's in his 40's hasnt played at a high level since 96. Since 04 he's played in a British hockey league that he quit after getting in a fight with a fan, and in a senior rec league in Manitoba.

He's small, known for physical play, and not fast (now at least). I dont see where that skill set could even fit in on a 4th line aka Claude Lemiux in SJ this year.

i grew up watching him play and hes probably the main reason i love hockey so much today.

What does he have on the ice other players don't?

HEART!

In the same interview I alluded to earlier he said this ...

"I understand why teams fire coaches but the reality is that it is never the coaches fault. The blame lays on the players. They have to look within themselves at the end of the season and ask 'Did I do enough - Did I give my very best effort? - Did I contribute enough to help this team win?'"
Then he said in reference to the Flames players this year "There is not a single person in that dressing room that can look inside themselves and say 'yes'"

It was fucking brilliant.

I'm an Oilers fan, but Fleury was still one of the greats of his time. If it wasn't for him being an alcoholic and a druggie, he could of been even better. He has his shit in line now, has his own company (quite successful too).

With talks of him trying to come back to the NHL? I think someone is feeding you shit. Most guys are thinking about retirement in the NHL at his age, not coming back to the NHL.

At the alum tourney this year there was a giant table with rum on it and i am chatting with another one of my friends, Theo points to the table and says "One Sitting" and walks off like we were supposed to be impressed... kind of awkward really..

No love for Gary Roberts?

Hehe, whenever I read in any NHL news about Al MacInnis (VP in St. Louis) or Joe Nieuwendyk (Dallas GM now), I get this stupid grin thinking about the old days.
